Man Fuming After Finding Stash Of Drugs Inside Courtesy Car

Not exactly what he was expecting after taking his car in for a service

Many dealerships now offer a courtesy car for you to drive around for the day if you take your own in for a service. Sometimes it can be weird sitting in a car that isn't actually yours, although it can make a nice change being in a clean vehicle.

However, Russell Page certainly didn't get that experience when he took his Vauxhall in to get a check-up. Because the dealership didn't have any courtesy cars, they offered him an employee's vehicle, with the owner admitting it was a tad dirty.

Still, the 32-year-old motorist was understandably annoyed when he found half an empty bottle of wine, lighters everywhere and ash on the dashboard. But that was just the tip of the iceberg, because when he went to put some shopping in the boot, he got a strong whiff of weed.

Russell started rummaging through the employee's handbag and, sure enough, found cannabis, a grinder and a bag of white powder.

While the story is focused solely on the state of the car, there is a point to make about the ethics involved in going through a stranger's belongings without their permission.

But we'll leave that to one side.

Mr Page was furious that he had been given such a shitty car to drive around for the day and made his complaints loud and clear when he returned it. He said: "I rang and spoke to Matt, the branch manager, and told him what had happened. He wanted to swap the car over, and when I told him I was taking it to the police station, he told me not to.

"He told me he would go to the police and that the employee would lose their job."

But Russell was even more livid when he went back to the dealership a week later and found the female employee was still working there. However, managing director Graham Potts has a different version of events.

"The conversation I had with Mr Page on 22 September contained a series of untruths," he said. "I was not prepared to accept that what he was saying were the facts, because I know they're not the facts.

"The vehicle was not prepared in cleanliness terms as it was not a courtesy car, it was somebody's own car. He then returned to the dealership having detected a smell, and having investigated what it was and found a bag in the boot.

"The expression which he used to me several times was that it was 'filled with drugs'.

"There was a long conversation in which Mr Page was not just abusive, but used extremely foul language to me."

So it looks like neither party is happy with the outcome. We'll leave them to it, shall we?
