Man Has No Idea How He Ended Up Nearly Naked In Sewer

Initially we thought this guy might have fallen into the sewer on his way back home after having a bev (or ten). Because the only reasonable solution we could come up with was this being alcohol-related. Obviously.

But this is the moment a 21-year-old man escapes through a drain cover after waking up bruised, beaten and nearly naked in a darkened city sewer. And his last recollection was being in work the previous evening.

Jose Omar Ruiz Martines woke up to find himself trapped below the ground and dressed in nothing but his underwear. Awks.

He said he had no idea how he found his way into the dingy sewer system or more questionably, how he lost his clothes in the strange process.

Authorities were called to the emergency which happened at around 7am local time and once they had located Jose through a grill they offered him a torch so that he could light his way to the drain cover which had been removed.

We bet they'd never seen anything like this before.

The bizarre rescue took place in the municipality of Guadalupe, in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.

In the footage he can been seen finding a small drain cover and being pulled free from the sewer system by two police officers. It's nice to see a bit of teamwork regardless of the situ.

Clearly embarrassed, Martinez attempted to cover his modesty by placing his hands over his dirty pants, as a group of people had congregated to watch the rescue. Nothing to see here guys.

We'd be embarrassed fully clothed, never mind practically naked.

The poor guy told local media that he had no idea how he came to be in the network of tunnels and the last thing he could recall was working the previous evening.

Just imagine the confused state he must have been in on realising he was actually under the ground.

It is reported that he had a number of blows to different parts of his body and scratches on the shoulder but apart from this was in a healthy state.

Martinez was transferred to a police station and then taken to his relatives who identified him.

We're glad he's safe and well but if we were to pass on a word of wisdom it would definitely be to steer clear of those pesky Mexican sewage systems, they can be a devil - so we've heard anyway.
