The BBC show was truly an emotional rollercoaster

Viewers were left in tears just twenty minutes in to the hit BBC show Dynasties - but they weren't the usual tears of devastation, but ones of joy.

A tense moment between a young lion, Red, and a clan of 20 hyenas had fans on the edge of their seats - the young lion was exploring the outside of his pride's territory when he stumbled on the dangerous situation.

Red's situation was looking bleak as he began to tire trying to fend of the hyenas - it was resembling Scar's death in the iconic Disney film The Lion King when he was killed by the hyenas or when the hyenas caused the wildebeest to stampede which killed Mufasa but Red, fortunately didn't have this outcome - his cousin Tatu came to the rescue.

People just couldn't handle the emotional rollercoaster that was the scene and took to Twitter.

One person commented: "Can't be dealing with any more lions dying with hyenas involved. Still not over Mufassa #Dynasties #LionKing."

Another said: "Young male Lion ventures out of the Pride lands into the Hyena's territory, is ambushed then saved by another male lion. Is this not literally the Lion King? #Dynasties."

A third commented: "Was on the edge of my seat there hoping that Lion would get rescued and it did these wildlife programmes with David Attenborough are fantastically brilliant but depressingly brutal!!! #Dynasties."

However, the whole thing took a more emotional turn when the lion pride started suffering from poisoning - this caused many of the lion cubs to get very sick and because one of Charm's cubs couldn't keep up with the pace of the pride she was forced to abandon him.

Poisoning is one of the biggest threats the African lions and even with help from vets there isn't a simple antidote. Eventually, although the cub received help he couldn't be saved and never made it back to his pride - as confirmed in the 'on location' part of the show.

Other people were interested in the women-power on display in the documentary - the two female lionesses, Charm and Sienna, showed how powerful the female members of the species are.

"Charm and Sienna: Two strong independent Lion women who don't need them no Lion man. #Dynasties," one person tweeted.

While another said: "Forget Lion King! Oh hail Queen Charm #dynasties."

And with the release of the latest The Lion King trailer there was plenty of tweets comparing the two - mainly how emotional they both are.

One viewer posted: "Is this #Dynasties episode getting us ready for "you know what" in #TheLionKing2019 @TheLionKing I CAN'T TAKE IT TWICE..."

It was another moment Sir David Attenborough pulled at our heart-strings and the film crew captured stunning scenes.
