'Black Panther' star Chadwick Boseman Is Sick Of Doing The Wakanda Forever Salute

'Black Panther' star Chadwick Boseman Is Sick Of Doing The Wakanda Forever Salute

The pose has been synonymous with the actor since 'Black Panther' was released and four months later, he's over it

There are a few athletes and celebrities who have built their brand to such a level that they're identifiable simply from a pose or hand gesture.

Mo Farah has the Mobot, Usain Bolt has To Di World, musicians like Kanye and Jay-Z have the 'Rock-A Fella Diamond' and Chadwick Boseman has the Wakanda Forever salute.

The latter was born from the Box Office smash Black Panther, where Boseman played the titular character, the King of Wakanda from a fictional sub-Sahara African country.

In the film, T'Challa does the Wakanda Forever salute, which is his arms crossed over his chest, and Boseman continued to do it on the red carpet and at different events.

Hell, he even did it at the end of his commencement speech after being given an honorary doctorate at Howard University.

But, in much the same way that Bart was sick and tired of saying 'I didn't do it', Chadwick Boseman is over having to do the Wakanda Forever salute everywhere he goes.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with his Avengers: Infinity War co-stars Josh Brolin, Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan and Karen Gillan, Boseman told the host: "If I don't want to do it, I have to not leave the house, pretty much."

If you have a look at Boseman at events following the movie's premiere, you can see the life progressively drain from his face. What started as an enthusiastic red-carpet pose has turned into a 'Please Kill Me' look.

The actor has actually done it a hell of a lot more than his co-star Michael B Jordan, who played N'Jadaka / Erik 'Killmonger' Stevens. When Jordan was in an interview with a journalist who tried to get him to do the salute, he jokingly replied with: "I'm not from Wakanda."

So if you see Boseman or any of the cast of Black Panther in the street, maybe don't yell at them to do the salute for your Instagram picture.

But considering that the film was such a Box Office hit and looking at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's past, there's no doubt that there will eventually be a sequel. Two months ago, Black Panther producer Kevin Feige said there's 'nothing specific' on the cards yet for a sequel - but come on, of course there will be one.

If a second instalment was released, you can be damn sure that Boseman would have to do another round of red-carpet events and press tours where he'd be asked by everyone to do the salute.
