Dame Judi Dench Told Paramedic To 'F**k Off' When Asked If She Had A Carer

Dame Judi Dench Told Paramedic To 'F**k Off' When Asked If She Had A Carer

The paramedic was treating Dame Judi for a hornet sting when he asked if she had a carer and she was not at all pleased

Bastard hornets. The bigger, uglier cousin of the wasp, they're both capable of ruining a BBQ and even your entire summer.

We hate them even more after one stung Dame Judi Dench, an absolute national treasure and an icon of the stage and the screen. On the plus side, it resulted in a sweary outburst that just serves to provide more evidence of why people love her.

After being stung by the insect, she required medical help - and was absolutely livid when the young paramedic assumed she'd have a carer.

The 83-year-old actress told the story on BBC2's Nothing Like A Dame, which airs tonight at 9pm.

She appears in the programme with Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Dame Joan Plowright.

In the show, the women discuss careers, husbands, and growing old disgracefully, as Dame Judi explains: "A paramedic walked into the room who was about 17 and said, 'What's your name?'

"So I said 'Judi', and he said, 'Have we got a carer?' And I'm afraid I completely blew my top.

"I said, 'You fuck off!'"

Can see why she'd be annoyed. She'd just finished eight weeks at the Garrick Theatre and, even though she's left the James Bond franchise, has recently appeared in massive films like Murder on the Orient Express and Victoria & Abdul.

Probably not the offending hornet, but a hornet nonetheless.

And maybe we'll all have cause to be this angry soon enough: Asian hornets have recently been spotted in the UK, and people are worried that we're about to be swarmed by the horrible things.

Dench and Smith also talk about their friendship, which dates back across decades. In a teaser clip, Smith is shown struggling to remember their early performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. "Were we good?" Smith asks.

Dame Judi replies, "No, I don't think we were."

Growing older is a subject that she's got absolutely no time for. Miriam Margoyles once asked her if she'd planned her funeral yet, and was met with some attitude. Judi said she replied with: "I'm not going to die."

If you'd like further proof that she's an absolute queen, just spend a minute re-watching our video of her rapping with Lethal Bizzle.

We are really torn here. Bloody love Dame Judi, she's a national treasure. But also, the poor paramedic was just trying to do his job and NHS workers deserve our support.

Either way... it's pretty funny.
