007 Producer Barbara Broccoli Says Next James Bond Could Be Black Or A Woman

When Daniel Craig hangs up the bow tie, sharp tuxedo, Walter PPK and martini, everyone will be wondering who will fill his incredibly large shoes.

Becoming James Bond is a massive opportunity, considering there's only been a few actors play the MI6 spy since it debuted in 1962.

There have been several news actors who have been tipped to be the next Bond, James Bond, including Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy, James Norton, Henry Cavill and many more.

All of those above are white, British men, and there's nothing wrong with that.

But 007 producer Barbara Broccoli says they might take a different direction after the next film, which currently has the title of Bond 25.

According to the Daily Mail, the 57-year-old said: "These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit. Anything is possible.

"Right now, it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?"

Craig was a slight deviation from the Bond played by Sir Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery as he was absolutely shredded. But that's about it when it comes to diversity.

Before his death, Sir Roger spoke to the Daily Mail about the idea of changing who Bond is, saying: "I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond.

"But they wouldn't be Bond for the simple reason that wasn't what Ian Fleming wrote.

"It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist - it is simply about being true to the character."

There was an almighty shitstorm on social media and from certain commentators when Doctor Who announced the next titular character would be female actor Jodie Whittaker. While some people praised the show for including a woman, many others said it was an attempt at being politically correct.

Idris Elba faced a similar level of scrutiny when his name was being thrown around to become the next Bond when Craig said he'd rather 'slash his wrists' than do another movie.

Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley echoed Sir Roger's comments in the Guardian, saying: "Idris Elba is stunning - and was incidentally in Absolutely Fabulous - but I don't think he is right for Bond, who is quite clearly described in the book."

Even if producers want Idris for the role to add a bit of diversity, he's said he's not all that keen on it. The Luther actor told the New York Times: "It's interesting that the James Bond thing continues to go.

"I think it's more about, we just want to have a black guy play James Bond rather than Idris Elba, the actor, play James Bond. That's the part that I'm like, 'Ugh, come on'."

So who knows who could play the role when Bond 25 is done and dusted.
