Love Island's Chris Hughes has stirred up controversy after posting an ill-judged joke to Instagram at the expense of national treasure Sir David Jason.

The reality TV star posted a picture of himself and girlfriend Olivia Attwood walking past rows of celebs at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night, as he held the back of her dress up off the floor.

In the background of the picture was the Only Fools And Horses actor, who happened to be looking in their general direction at the moment the photograph was taken.

Accompanying the picture, Hughes wrote a caption that read: "When Sir David Jason asked me to lift it a little bit higher."

Some people have commented that the 'joke' hardly seemed appropriate, given the current climate in showbiz and beyond.

Meanwhile, Love Island fans were quick to pick up on some seat swapping taking place during the award ceremony.

People noticed that fellow Love Islanders Kem and Amber were sat apart following an advert break - after being sat together at the start.

One fan tweeted: "Anyone else notice that Kem and Amber where sat together and have now moved apart?"

Another said: "How awkward that Kem & Amber have been separated at the #NTAs when they were sat together before the ad break."

"Love how at the start of the NTA's Amber and Kem were sat together and now Chris and Olivia are in between them hahahah," added another.

Just before Amber attended the NTAs earlier this week she had a meeting with the Coronation Street casting crew, it has been reported.

But contrary to rumours she was being approached for a role on the show, a source told Digital Spy that the meeting was for her to seek advice on how to break into TV acting.

Earlier this month, Amber spoke on Lorraine about her desire to embark on an acting career.

"I'd love to go into a soap," she said. "I trained for three years in musical theatre. I'd love to use my talent and a passion to do what I want and have a long future in what I love to do."
