Hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur's life tragically ended on 7 September 1996, as the American rapper died a week later as a result of being shot in a drive-by shooting.

But is that really what happened? 'Yes' is the most sensitive response, but ever since that day there have been many conspiracy theories - back up by supposed sightings of the man - suggesting that he isn't dead.

One man who has had a big say in the debate is Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records. He was with the rapper, commonly known by his stage name of 2pac, the night he (supposedly) died. But despite having previously said that he knows the killer's identity, Knight now claims that Tupac is well and truly alive.

Knight himself was injured in the attack, and made this latest revelation while in conversation with Ice-T and Soledad O'Brien for a Fox TV special entitled Who Shot Biggie & Tupac?, according to TMZ.

"When Pac died... if he really did you know?" Knight told the pair.

"I mean, when I left that hospital me and Pac was laughing and joking, so I don't see how someone can turn from doing well to doing bad."

He was talking to the rapper and journalist on the phone from LA County jail. And when the pair questioned him further on his suspicions, Knight added: "I'm going to tell you that with Pac, you never know."

The programme airs in the US on Sunday 24 September, and sees the pair investigating the unsolved murders, uncovering new accounts of the shootings from eyewitnesses.

Earlier this year Knight, currently behind bars for a separate murder, confirmed a theory that the bullet was meant for him, put forward in this year's documentary Tupac Assassination: Battle for Compton.

Meanwhile, in 2014, TMZ reported that the record mogul had claimed no one had been charged for the rapper's death because 'Tupac's not dead'.

Knight's attorney, Thaddeus Culpepper, had written an affidavit that explained he knew for 'many years that Reggie Wright Jr and his ex-wife, Sharitha, were behind the murder of Tupac and attempted murder of Knight'.

A spokesman for Tupac Assassination: Battle For Compton, added: "Culpepper told [documentary maker, Michael Douglas] Carlin individually that not only did Knight confirm the events portrayed in Compton, which portray Knight was the intended target and Shakur as collateral damage, as true, but also goes onto allege that these 1996 events may have been the first in a history of attempts on Knight's life."

It begs the question: will we ever know the truth?
