It should've been clear when he started baking cakes on telly with old ladies that Noel Fielding's image was taking a bit of a detour, but now a new haircut has all but proved the comedian is on the path to a more conservative future.

Fielding shared a selfie of his new trim on his Twitter account.

The trim comes after news emerged that the Bake Off presenter and girlfriend Lliana Bird are expecting their first child in a month.

The couple have been dating since 2010, but kept their pregnancy under wraps from the public eye for a long time.

News of the pregnancy was confirmed last month by Kasabian star and close friend of the couple Serge Pizzorno, who told the Mirror: "He's going to be the best dad. It's going to be amazing. I can't wait."

Serge was also partly responsible for his mate's career shift last year when he joined popular baking show The Great British Bake Off as a host.

The Kasabian guitarist recommended that Noel should check out the Channel 4 program and he never looked back.

"I watched [Bake Off] back to back and really enjoyed it," Noel said. "I just thought, this is such a nice vibe and I really loved it. I didn't bake or anything, I was just a big fan.

"When they asked me to do it, I was really staggered. I just thought, this is too big an opportunity [to pass up]. Also, I really wanted to work with Sandi because I think Sandi was already in. I thought we'd be good together comedically."

We last got a glimpse of The Mighty Boosh man without his trademark mop during an episode of the IT Crowd in which his gothic character Richmond revisited his life as a high-flying corporate executive before he discovered Cradle Of Filth.

Noel's new do isn't all that dissimilar in terms of length and it certainly lends him an air of maturity as his career and personal life continue to advance.
