The Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced some absolutely amazing movies since it kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man. It's brought some of the world's most loved comic book heroes to life and smashed it at the box office.

In 2018, we've got a slew of new titles to look forward to, including the new Avengers movie and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The Avengers: Infinity War, released in May next year, will bring together a host of characters (and actors) from previous Marvel movies. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has previously said the new film will 'bring [together] almost every single hero' introduced into the franchise over the past decade. Sounds good, eh?

Of course, when it comes to the best Marvel actor, there can only be one and the people have spoken and voted Robert Downey Jr the greatest of them all, for his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

According to Ranker, Robert Downey Jr pips James McAvoy and Tommy Lee Jones to the number one spot. Elsewhere on the list, Ryan Reynolds was at number 88 with his Deadpool, harsh. However, I think we can all agree that Robert is a deserving winner, can't we?

The 55-year-old actor is a big martial arts fan and has been practising Wing Chun since 2003. He has incorporated his training into some of his movies, with his teacher Eric Oram saying: "Robert does all his own stuff when it comes to fights. When the camera is on him, it's really him doing it." Impressive stuff.

Since staring as the lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first ever movie, he's gone on to have two Iron Man sequels, as well as staring in The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War.

And I think we can all say it'll be a sad day when we have to see Robert hang up his Iron Man suit forever, which could be sooner than we'd like.

Feige himself said that it's likely we'll see Iron Man retired or rebooted in the future.

"I do think Iron Man, like Spider-Man, like Batman, like Superman, like James Bond has existed long before most of us were around and will exist long after most of us are gone," he said. "So it's inevitable." Say it ain't so.

Until then, we can still look forward to seeing Robert Downey Jr in The Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers flick due out in 2019.
