Tom Hardy Has Shaved Off All His Hair For 'Chasing Fonzo'

He looks very, very different - and not necessarily in a good way

OK, if you're a big Tom Hardy fan, the pictures we've got in this article probably won't change that. However, he looks a little bit worse for wear on the set of the Al Capone biopic Chasing Fonzo.

Basically, he's suffering for his art. In this case, that means that he has shaved all of his hair off and will have to wear a wig to make him look like the balding mafia boss.

The 40-year-old actor was also spotted carrying a mannequin's head with a wig on it, wearing a grey t-shirt, long Adidas shorts and red and white Nike Trainers.

According to local papers in Louisiana, the film began shooting on April 2nd for the crime drama film that tells a portion of the life of the famous mobster and bootlegger Capone, as well as touching on his time in prison.

A press release about the film describes Capone as "a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist" and "the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore".

However, it goes on to say: "At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse's mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life."

The film is being directed by Josh Trank, who wrote the film and has also directed Fantastic Four.

Hardy's co-stars in the film include Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Last week, Hardy himself released the first shot to emerge from within the production on his Instagram.

Captioned simply "Chasing Fonzo..." It showed Hardy sat on a chair wearing what looks like a prison uniform. In his hand he is holding Al Capone's famous Fedora hat and his sleeves are rolled up to reveal all of Hardy's tattoos.

Basically, he looks a lot better than he does in the more recent pictures that have emerged.

Well, sort of. The photo also seems to show Hardy with Capone's famous scars on his face. Capone was nicknamed 'Scarface' because of the distinctive marks he received after a knife fight.

Basically, he looks a lot better than he does in the more recent pictures that have emerged.

However, if he's playing an aging and dementia-suffering Capone this week, he is also likely to be playing Capone in the past.

There's probably going to be a few different guises for him to play that we may or may not learn about as they shoot the film.

Given that the film claims to portray Capone aged 47 there is also a significant chance that they will follow him until his death aged 48 - which I guess counts as a plot spoiler, maybe.
