Everyone's favourite actor, Tom Hardy, has done what any self-respecting 21st century public figure would do in the face of some wild speculation - he has taken to Instagram.

As a story did the rounds in the media on 1 April - April Fools' Day - about Hardy taking over as the next James Bond, the man himself couldn't resist a slight piss-take of all the speculation.

There has been about as much speculation about who will be the next Bond as there has on who would win in a pants-only mud wrestle between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.

We've seen Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, James Norton and Aidan Turner among the range of names who have been floated as the favourite to be the next 007 when the current lead actor, Daniel Craig, decides to call it quits.

The rumour mill has been so rife that I'm pretty sure your mum has even been a contender to be the next in line as the shagging, killing and boozing fictional British secret agent at some point over the past 12 months.

But one name which has always been in the frame is that of Hardy, star of The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Dunkirk, Peaky Blinders and other classics from film and TV.

At the time of writing, Hardy is the leading contender alongside Norton with those who really know best - no, not the producers, the bookies - and that means he's seeing a large chunk of speculation heading his way.

Tom is currently in the process of making a biopic about Al Capone but what the world really cares about is whether he likes his vodka martini shaken or stirred.

The currently untitled 25th James Bond film is scheduled to be out in 2019 and it has not yet been publicly confirmed whether Craig will star.

Craig has played Bond in four previous movies in the franchise but he has always been a little bit cranky about the whole experience, even suggesting he would rather slash his wrists than take up the role again following 2015's Spectre.

The current Bond later mellowed and said he would be back but it remains to be seen. However, something tells us that if Hardy is using social media for Bond bantz then he probably hasn't been given the role... just saying.
