Zac Efron took to Instagram this week to share yet another picture of himself as prolific American serial killer Ted Bundy.

For those of you who didn't know (keep up), Efron has ditched his role as teeny-bopper heartthrob to play the guy who the term 'serial killer' was invented for - a man who raped and murdered his way through allegedly more than 100 women (but was only convicted for 30).

The film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, follows the story of Bundy's extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile murders from the point of view of his girlfriend, Liz, played by Lily Collins.

The story goes that Liz refused to believe Bundy carried out the killings, despite some rather obvious warning signs.

Meanwhile, John Malkovich will play Judge Edward Cowart, the man who presided over Bundy's televised trial and sentenced him to death in 1979.

It certainly looks like Efron's getting into the role, if his latest social media pic is anything to go by.

The 30-year-old actor shared another behind-the scenes photo with director Joe Berlinger from the upcoming movie, looking every part the creepy-yet-charming necrophile in a crisp white sweater and slicked back hair. It's uncanny.

The image comes a week after he shared the first look at his transformation from Hollywood diamond to sadistic serial killer.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Efron said: "Ted Bundy is going to be a challenge. I think it's going to be different and it's going to be fun. I'm super stoked."

It would certainly seem that way, as the actor has been taking the whole thing rather seriously. Just two days ago he spent the day at the Clermont County Jail to shoot scenes for the horror flick.

Now you're officially aboard the hype train, it's probably worth mentioning the (lack of) release date.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile is rumoured to open at the Cannes Film Festival in May, but delayed production will likely push it forward. Meanwhile, it's not clear exactly when filming will be completely wrapped.

Hopefully it's sooner rather than later, because quite frankly, we can't wait to see Efron jump from Baywatch and High School Musical to one of the most depraved and sadistic human beings to have ever lived. Let's see if he can pull it off.
