Johnny Depp has reportedly cancelled press conferences after questions were raised about his 'gaunt' appearance.

The star was pictured recently with fans in Russia and people were quick to point out that he wasn't looking his best.

Concerned fans took to social media, speculating about whether the actor may be ill, or if he could have simply dropped some weight for an upcoming role.

However, according to a source close to him, Johnny is having a great time touring with his band, the Hollywood Vampires, and the Daily Mail reports that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is 'in good health'.

Even so, Times Magazine reported that questions posed by a German journalist about his 'gaunt' appearance had caused 'panic among the larger Depp camp', causing all scheduled press conferences to be cancelled.

Despite the panic, Depp is set to appear in five upcoming films, one of which is the drama Richard Says Goodbye, where he will be playing the lead role who decides to live wildly after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.

It's possible that Depp had taken on the look in order to play his part, which seems possible given that he has been more recently pictured with his band looking more like his usual self.

The Hollywood Vampires, a supergroup comprised of Depp, veteran rocker Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, have been packing out arenas on their tour and loving every minute of it.

Speaking to the Guardian, Depp said: "My day job is a completely different animal, I suppose. What do I get from this that I normally don't get? I get me!"

He added: "But when I'm up there on stage with these guys, it's that feeling I had as a kid. It's freedom. In movies someone is always telling you what to do, but here I have the freedom that my day job doesn't allow. Most important, it's really fucking fun."

The band is the latest in a long line of musical ventures from Depp, who appeared on Oasis' third album Be Here Now in 1997, contributing slide guitar to the song 'Fade In-Out'. It was his second appearance with the Manchester band, having previously guested with them on 'Fade Away', their contribution to the 1995 charity compilation The Help Album.

In the mid-90s he also played in the alternative rock supergroup P, alongside Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes.
