Josh Brolin Celebrates 5 Years Of Sobriety With Emotional Social Media Post

Josh Brolin has played some of Hollywood's biggest badasses: Thanos (Avengers), Cable (Deadpool 2), Llewelyn Moss (No Country For Old Men).

He looks like a type of guy you wouldn't want to mess with.

But the 50-year-old has opened up about a very sensitive topic to him: alcoholism.

The actor is celebrating being five years sober today and marked the occasion with an emotional post on social media detailing just how absolutely wrecked he used to get in his heyday.

The blurry picture posted on Instagram shows Brolin in the middle of two blokes, looking like he's having a fabulous time, but the caption reveals the toll a beer or ten took on his life.

"Drunk: when you think you're having a rip roaring time," he wrote, "and the next morning you wake up and your brain has broken into a frenzied beehive and your body is shattered shards of sharp glass desperately searching for what fits where and your spirit is being eaten by worms with great white bloodied teeth and your heart has shriveled into a black prune churning your intestines to the point where dysentery feels attractive and you can't remember anything you did.

"So you roll out of bed over last night's urine and you dial your best friend's phone number because you recall him lifting you over his head, your whole self, before you hit and broke through the drywall and, you think, a large aquarium and the phone on the other end rings and he picks it up, that clambering for a phone, the clumsiness of a hardline, and you say: "What did I do last night?!" and he answers, after a great pause: "...Dude...".Josh Brolin opens up about his heavy drinking days. Heavy.

Brolin was arrested for public intoxication on New Years Day 2013 and that was just the start of bad things to come that year with his wife divorcing him one month later.

He checked into rehab in November 2013 and came out the other side a better, brighter Brolin.

Reflecting on that time, the actor told the Guardian: "It made me think of a lot of things. My mum dying when I was in my 20s. All the impact that had on me that I hadn't moved past; I was always such a momma's boy.

"But I realised that I was on a destructive path. I knew that I had to change and mature. It was like I stepped back and saw the hamster wheel."

Here's to another five years Josh!
