Many of us are pretty wary of what we're tapping into Google when we're on the internet - but usually that's because we're concerned about the ol' search history, amiright?

Well, it turns out we should also be careful when it comes to online security, according to cybersecurity firm McAfee.

For 2018, the company has named Kim Kardashian as the most dangerous celebrity to search for in the UK, while Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose came top for the US.

The news is based on how many search results featuring a celebrity's name contain links to potentially malicious websites, with McAfee explaining cyber criminals try and use the appeal of celebrities to trick online surfers into click links leading to malicious sites - many of which might steal personal information like passwords or install malware onto your computer.

While Kardashian topped the list for the UK - replacing singer Craig David - the top 10 also featured actress Rose Byrne, supermodel Naomi Campbell, Kim's sister Kourtney Kardashian, Adele, Love Island host Caroline Flack, Britney Spears, actress Emma Roberts and reality TV star Ferne McCann.

2017 Love Island winner Kem Citinay also featured, being the only man in the top 10.

Over on the US list, meanwhile, Kourtney Kardashian and Rose Byrne were flagged alongside the likes of actress Marion Cotillard, original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter and Amber Heard.

McAfee fellow and chief scientist Raj Samani said: "We live in a fast-paced world that's heavily influenced by pop culture and social media, with endless opportunities to pick and choose which entertainment options we prefer to enjoy from a variety of connected devices.

"With Kim Kardashian's influence and business ventures, people will go to extreme lengths to be a little more like Kim.

"In our hyper-connected world, it's important for consumers to think before they click to be sure that they are surfing to safe digital content and protecting themselves from cybersecurity threats that may be used to infect their devices or steal their identity."

So that's all well and good, but what can we actually do to stay safe online? Well, McAfee warned that people should only stream stuff from reputable and reliable, paid-for sources, and that they should only click on news stories from sources that they trust.

As well as that, people should keep apps and anti-virus software up to date - if you don't bother to do that, systems are left vulnerable to attack.

Might make you think twice before clicking that 'Update later' option for the millionth time...
