Adult Film Star Jenna Jameson Faced Death Threats Over 'Transphobic' Comments

Adult film veteran Jenna Jameson has spoken out about the 'mob mentality' of online bullying, in the wake of the death of fellow adult film actress August Ames.

Ames is believed to have commited suicide following high profile criticism from social media, after posting what many described as a 'homophobic' tweet, which appeared to condemn a director's decision to cast 'a guy who has shot gay porn'.

Jameson has now said that she has had a similar experience after Playboy magazine featured its first transgender playmate, Ines Rau, and Jameson took to Twitter to voice her disapproval, saying: "So @playboy just announced it will be featuring its first transgender playmate..."

The tweet then had three emojis of a woman facepalming.

Despite saying that the message wasn't transphobic, she then liked a number of tweets that included hateful comments towards Rau and the transgender community.

Now Jenna has said that the incident provoked an 'incredible amount of attacks', including death threats against her and her daughter. She also attributes specific blame to the LGBT community.

She said: "I would like to point out the incredible amount of attacks that were made on me by the LGBT community when I voiced my opinion on a trans woman being in Playboy. I received death threats against me and my daughter. This went on for days. This mob mentality must end."

In a later tweet, Jameson added: "This makes me ill... I see something very consistent about these attacks made by the LGBT community... they try to strip your integrity, dehumanise you. Sickens me."

While Jameson's posts about Rau remains controversial for many, people seem to agree with her more recent comments on the adult film industry - and the responsibility it should face up to.

Jameson posted: "The scariest part of the attacks on @AugustAmesxxx is that they were led by quite a few big females in the adult industry. These women fanned the flames of the trolling against August. Everyone should read the thread. So disappointing and tragic."

After speaking out about the adult film industry, she then signed off Twitter, saying: "On that note, I'm going to bed... goodnight. And if the lynchmob tries coming for me while I sleep, trust me I wake early... and I will thrash you."

Ames originally tweeted: "Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews, you're shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say‍♀️ Do agents really not care about who they're representing? #ladirect I do my homework for my body."

Adult performer Ashley Downs also recently told LADbible that the industry has a lot to answer for when it comes to online abuse, and that performers should be working toward supporting friends and colleagues.

"The industry itself is one big, money-making machine and it's easy for the vulnerable to get swallowed up," she said.

"Some young girls come into the job thinking it's going to be easy to be rich and famous, when in reality it's hard work, and you have to be strong physically and mentally.

"Inside the industry all we can do as performers is try and support our friends and colleagues."
