Terry Crews must have been through a lot of emotions this week after the show he stars in, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was cancelled by Fox and subsequently picked up by NBC after a fan revolt.

But today could be the day with the most amount of feels because it's Mother's Day in the US. The actor has posted on Instagram a letter that he wrote in 2011 that he never gave his mum, Patricia. Sadly, his mum died four years ago just before Thanksgiving.

Crews wrote: "I am posting this letter to remind everyone to please don't wait to have the conversations that need to occur with the loved ones in your life.

"I miss her every day, and I look at this letter and remember that we said the things we wanted and needed to say to each other, and now that she is at peace- I am too. I love you, Ma."

He says he wrote the letter when he was in Bulgaria filming Expendables 2. During the filming process, he had a bunch of time to think about his relationship with his mum.

The letter said: "I am sad about how our last conversations ended, but I'm also happy that some things were put out in the open. I know where you are and you know how I feel about things. That's always a good thing.

"I want to rebuild my relationship with you from the ground up. I believe sometimes things have to be dismantled, examined, cleaned then put back together so they work correctly. I understand if you don't want to - but if you could allow me to shoot you these notes from time to time I would be grateful.

"I want you in my life. Plain and simple. I apologise for any hurt I have caused you and I forgive you for any of the same.

"I love you, I care for you and I believe things can be repaired, and I will continue to do so."

Ooooft, we were not ready for that.

There's no indication as to what caused the rift between mother and son - however ABC News reports that Crews' upbringing was incredibly strict. He was mainly raised by his mum in Flint, Michigan and the news site says he wasn't allowed to watch movies, play sports, dance or listen to non-religious music.

Considering that he's starred in a bunch of movies, become a fan favourite for his pec-popping dance and played NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, the San Diego Chargers, the Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles, it's not hard to see why they might have had some differences in opinion.

However, it could have been a result of something completely different.

While it's heart-breaking that Terry never got to actually give his mum the letter, his post reminds us to talk to our loved ones.
