Kevin Hart's devastating car crash has seen the actor spend several days in hospital, with many fearing his road to recovery could be long and arduous.

Despite this, it seems like those closest to him are in good spirits, especially his mate Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

He's appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show instead of Hart, who was supposed to be the singer host's first guest.

The Rock told Kelly: "Everything is good, I spoke with Kevin, I actually refer to him as my son.

"I connected with him today and you know what, these things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat.

"That's real love...We spoke to the paediatrician and he said he's doing very well."

The Rock also revealed that he cut his honeymoon short so that he could support his on- and off-screen pal in hospital.

Writing on Twitter, The Rock said: "When my son @KevinHart4real goes down with an injury, his big daddy steps in. I did leave my honeymoon early (Lauren approved cos she LOVES Kelly) and now me and Kelly are new best friends."

Hart suffered 'major back injuries' in the incident, which took place in West Valley last weekend.

He had been riding as a passenger in one of his cars - a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda - when it crashed from Cold Canyon Road onto Mulholland Highway, with Jared S. Black in the driver's seat.

After hearing the news, many of Hart's famous friends posted online to show their support, including The Rock, who posted a picture of them both from when they were filming the upcoming sequel for Jumanji.

He wrote in the caption: "Stop messing with my emotions brother @kevinhart4real. We have a lot more laughing to do together. Love you man. Stay strong."

Another close friend of Hart's, Tiffany Haddish, also gave an encouraging update about the comedian actor.

Haddish spoke to ET at the Harper's Bazaar ICONS event in New York City, telling the news outlet: "He's OK. He's doing fine. As far as I know, from the last I heard, he's fine. He's already walking. He's good."

She did add, however, that Hart's 'back gonna hurt'.

Confirming the incident, a press release from the California Highway Patrol said driver Jared S. Black had 'immediately lost control' of the vehicle, which 'left the road and rolled over down the northern embankment'.

The CHS also said Black was 'determined not to be under the influence of alcohol'.

Hart and Black were taken to nearby hospitals, while another passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, suffered 'only complaint of pain'.
