Dwayne Johnson Says Jason Momoa Will Be In The Next Fast And Furious Film

He was supposed to be in the upcoming Hobbs and Shaw film but his schedule was too busy.

The announcement that the new Fast and Furious movie would start filming next month was not exactly greeted with optimism.

Many fans think the franchise has grown tired and should be let go.

There have been a bunch of actors added into the series since it's inception to boost the overall star power and even a spin off, called Hobbs and Shaw, starring The Rock and Jason Statham.

But there could be one new addition that would get people re-excited about the franchise: Jason Momoa.

Dwayne Johnson has revealed in an Instagram post that he wanted the Aquaman actor to play his brother in the upcoming spin off, according to ComicBook, but his schedule was too busy. Instead, he chose WWE wrestler Roman Reigns to play the part.

In the post he wrote: "Next Hobbs movie for sure."

Momoa's schedule has been pretty hectic over the past few years with Game of Thrones, Justice League and Aquaman, so it's no surprise that he's a hard man to book.

While he might not be able to play The Rock's on-screen brother, he could be brought in to play a long lost family member.

Not much has been said of how the spinoff will intertwine with the original Fast and Furious series. Will it be a prequel? A movie happening seconds after The Fate of The Furious? Something in the future?

The film premieres August 2, so we'll have to wait and see.

There is also speculation about what the upcoming Fast and Furious 9 will be about.

The Fate of the Furious director F Gary Gray told ScreenRant: "Outer space? Listen, I wouldn't rule anything out with this franchise. When I read 'submarine' [in The Fate of the Furious], I'm like, 'OK, anything's possible'.

"You never know. I haven't read 'Dom on Mars' yet, but again, you just never know."

All we know is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson wants to keep the series alive in some capacity for as long as possible.

Last year he said: "When you have a franchise that is as successful as the Fast and Furious franchise, the goal, certainly my goal, was always to try and create a scenario where we have as much longevity as we possibly can have."

Adding in Jason Momoa could certainly deliver an added boost to an otherwise stale format. Who knows, maybe he might combine his Aquaman character with the spinoff and rock up in an underwater car.

It certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for this series that has included submarines, car flying off cliffs and death-defying stunts.
