Actor Tom Hardy has received his CBE, having been honoured for his services to drama.

His CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) was announced earlier this year, but today he actually received the impressive honour from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace - seen in photos absolutely beaming with happiness.

The 41-year-old actor declined to speak to press - which is fair; I'd want to bask in that glory uninterrupted for as long as possible if it were me.

The recognition acknowledges Hardy's meteoric rise to stardom, having appeared in countless blockbusters like in Venom, Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road, Legend, The Dark Knight and Bronson, as well as a recent stint in Peaky Blinders.

He studied acting at the Richmond Drama School and the Drama Centre London before landing his first big gig in 2001 as US Army Private John Janovec in the miniseries Band of Brothers. In the same year, he also nabbed another war role as Lance Twombly in Black Hawk Down - which, let's face it, isn't exactly the worst start to a career is it?

While Hardy is clearly smashing it at the moment, he's previously spoken out about how he hasn't always been in such a great place - having revealed he battled an addiction to crack cocaine up until his mid 20s and has spent a few nights in police cells for disorderly conduct.

After checking himself into rehab in 2003, Hardy has managed to turn his fate around, and has seemingly gone from strength to strength.

In fact, he's even used his past mental health issues and personal problems to inform his portrayal of characters, having told Esquire that's precisely what he did for his lead role in this year's Venom.

He said: "To me it's exciting because it's a double act. The character has an ethical framework, the alien by virtue of coming from another planet doesn't have the same ethical framework, and they have to work out how to be together, so they click.

"He now has a beast who lives rent-free in him. It could be like somebody who's contracted a tropical disease and gone mad.

"It's like acting out mental illness in some aspects, of which I have a fair understanding, having had a certain amount of mental health problems of my own, which are relevant, being an addict. So, I might as well fucking use it."

Congratulations, Tom - you're absolutely smashing it, LAD.
