Matt LeBlanc praised for having Matthew Perry’s back in resurfaced interview

Matt LeBlanc praised for having Matthew Perry’s back in resurfaced interview

The pair still had each other's backs, years on from the show's finale

A recently resurfaced interview of Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry showed just how close the cast members really were years on from the show's finale.

The well-loved show lauded by many as the greatest sitcom of all time is still a bingeable watch today, 20 years on from the series finale.

Friends was more than a series though, as the cast members were extremely close in real life, making it even harder for fans when Matthew Perry sadly passed away last year.

Known for his role as the sarcastic, hilarious, yet lovable Chandler Bing, Perry arguably played the most beloved character on the show.

The 54-year-old's death was very sudden and was found to be an 'accident' due to the acute effects of ketamine, which is typically used as a general anaesthesia used in monitored surgical care.

The actor was found unresponsive in a hot tub by police at his home in Los Angeles on 28 October, 2023.

The heart-breaking event brought on a number of tributes of several celebrities, political figures and fans who grieved for the loss of such an influential figure in their lives.

But following his passing, several of Perry's best moments on screen and in interviews have began re-circulating, with one being the promotional interview he carried out with his Friends co-stars ahead of their reunion show in 2021.

The trio were being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight and as David Schwimmer - best known for playing Ross Geller on the show - was chatting to the reporter, Perry didn't realise that he was still in the shot.

He began waving to people off the camera to quieten down - but LeBlanc had his back.

Gently nudging him, the former Top Gear host explained: "Matty, that's the girls doing an interview.

"You're on camera," he politely added.

Slightly embarrassed, Perry asked the reporter: "Are you in a three-shot seeing me do that?"

Laughing, the late 54-year-old joked in Chandler Bing fashion that he 'looked like a crazy person'.

In the aftermath of Perry's death, Friends fans have heaped praise on the cast's bond, particularly praising LeBlanc for 'always looking out' for him.

"As his castmates [sic] have said over the years, he was ALWAYS looking out for them," one person said on TikTok."I love that Matt and David were being kinda protective over Matthew," said someone else.

A third went on: "I love how Matt comforts Matthew and make him understand that the girls are also doing the interview."

"I love how the boys backed up Matthew and copied him when he thought he was off camera," echoed another.

"Matt covering his best friend here with genuine love," someone else wrote, adding that 'you can’t fake decades of friendship'.

During their Friends reunion back in 2021, Perry emotionally spoke about the special bond between the cast members.

He said: "The best way that I can describe it is after the show was over, at a party or any kind of social gathering, if one of us bumped into each other, that was it.

"That was the end of the night. You just sat with the person all night long and that was it.

"You apologised to the people you were with, but they had to understand you had met somebody special to you and you were going to talk to that person for the rest of the night.

"And that’s the way it worked."
