Celebs Failed Spectacularly At 'Catchphrase' and Stormzy Loved It

Celebs Failed Spectacularly At 'Catchphrase' and Stormzy Loved It

How many celebs does it take to give Stephen Mulhern a simple answer on 'Celebrity Catchphrase'?

The game show Catchphrase has been a reliable source of laughs for Brits ever since it debuted in the mid-1980s, but it's probably never had so many people screaming at the telly as this moment.

WATCH THE HILARIOUS MOMENT BELOW:

If you haven't watched Catchphrase before, the show asks contestants to watch animated clips acting out well known phrases or sayings. As the former host Roy Walker used to say, all contestants have to do is 'say what you see'. Easy enough, right?

Apparently not. Last night saw a celeb edition of the show starring comedian Jimmy Carr, Paralympian swimmer Ellie Simmonds and 'Cold Feet' star Fay Ripley. Between the three of them, though, they managed to cock one answer up. Spectacularly.

In one round the celebs were tasked with watching a clip of a pirate flogging films at a stall. Jimmy Carr buzzed in first, giving the good-but-not-right answer 'pirate videos' before saying the right answer 'pirate DVDs'.

After host Stephen Mulhern told Jimmy he had to accept his first answer, the cash seemed ready and waiting for Ellie or Fay to claim for their chosen charity. Well, that's what we thought.

Both Ellie and Fay then utterly failed to get the hint, as the pair each had a free shot at guessing the answer and somehow flubbed it.

Argggghhhhhh. We know the feeling, Stephen.

Half the entire country was left banging its head against the wall, and UK grime musician Stormzy couldn't quite believe what was happening either.

'Is anyone else watching Catchphrase right now?' Stormzy asked on Twitter, complete with the usual crying with laughter emojis.

Obviously the answer was 'yes', and hids followers quickly dived in to comment on the slow-motion car crash they were watching in family game show form.

Even the social media reps of ITV itself were flummoxed by how badly the celebs made a hash of it:

It just goes to show you don't need a sporting event or a royal wedding to bring British people together.

All we need is a TV screen and a chance to laugh at other people's failure. Hats off to you, Catchphrase.
