Ant And Dec Claim World Record After 18th Consecutive NTA Award

It's been a difficult year for the comedy duo, but things are finally looking up for the pair

For some they are the 21st Century's answer to Morecambe and Wise, for others they're just that pair off Byker Grove who got lucky. Either way, for the past 20 years Geordie pals Anthony McPartlin and Declen Donnelly - better known as Ant and Dec - have dominated British television.

And this week the cheeky chappies were honoured once more for their special brand of light entertainment as they walked away with the Best Presenter gong at the National Television Awards.

It was their 18th victory on the bounce and the special milestone has now been marked by the Guinness World Records.

Just a day after picking up their controversial NTA gong, the Saturday Night Takeaway hosts were all smiles as they posed for pictures with their newest additions to their no-doubt bulging trophy cabinets.

They posted a picture to their Instagram account, with the caption: "The lovely folks from @guinnessworldrecords came down to #BGT auditions today and surprised us with these. How lovely! Thank you X."

Ant and Dec are finally working together again after a difficult year apart.

They were both given a commemorative plaque to mark the special award, which said: "The most National Television Awards for Best Presenter won consecutively is 18 and was achieved by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (both UK) as of 22 January 2019."

After a difficult year, Ant finally made his return to work last week, as he began filming for the next series of Britain's Got Talent.

Richard Arnold revealed the big news on Good Morning Britain, saying: "I can officially announce that after a year off Ant will start filming on the new series of BGT.

"Can you believe it's come around again? Oh how the time flies.

Ant was back to work last week as the two pals began filming auditions for Britain's Got Talent.

"They're reuniting on Friday for the auditions of course, getting underway in London on Friday before the rest of the BGT [team] continue their search for talent next month."

Dec's best mate has not been by his side since he stepped out of the spotlight last year, after he crashed his car in a drink-driving incident and subsequently went to rehab.

The presenter's troubled life has been well-documented in recent months, including his battle with drugs and alcohol, which caused him to miss live shows of Britain's Got Talent last year, as well as an entire series of I'm A Celebrity.

In October, it was also announced that the entertainer had divorced from wife Lisa Armstrong, to whom he had been married for 12 years.

Depending on how things go for Ant on BGT, there are rumours that he will resume hosting I'm A Celebrity with Dec, after his place was filled by Holly Willoughby during his absence last year.

And though Holly has gone down well with audiences, this will surely be music to everyone's ears, who have sorely missed his on-screen chemistry with his best mate.
