It was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the final season of Game of Thrones when Jon Snow left his direwolf Ghost without saying goodbye. The pair had been through so much over the past eight seasons and he ended their partnership with just a look.

A look!?

Well, Australian Federal Police have taken it upon themselves to show Kit Harington what a true hero looks like.

They uploaded a picture to Facebook showing an AFP officer scaling a large gate with a trusty police dog strapped to them, captioning it with: "Jon Snow, take note! Our Tactical Response Team never leaves their Direwolves behind."

The dog doesn't look comfortable in the slightest but by God it's coming along for the ride - unlike Ghost who's been cast away to north of the Wall to hang with Tormund and the Wildlings.

The post has gone absolutely viral, with it getting 14,000 likes, 4,200 comments and 1,600 shares.

One person wrote: "Love it. Nothing like carrying a further 45 kilos."

Another added: "In Jon Snow's defence, this wall is a 'bit' lower."

The people who have brought Game of Thrones to the small screen have actually spoken out about why Jon had to leave Ghost in such a heartbreaking fashion.

HBO

Speaking to INSIDER, director David Nutter said: "Well the good thing was [Ghost] wasn't right next to the actors and so forth.

"So there wasn't any issues with green screen or situations where we're dealing with any kind of rotoscoping."

So essentially, they broke our hearts because they CBA faffing around with the CGI.

Don't get us wrong, that stuff would probably cost an absolute fortune but we've been blessed with fire breathing dragons for God's sake and you can't even be bothered to have a two second shot of Jon petting a green-screened animal?

Regardless of the lame reason they gave, fans were devo'd at the scene. Ghost is the goodest boy of them all, and deserved at least a pat on the head before Jon Snow got off for the south.

One person said: "Just wanna give a huge shout out to Ghost for being the best boy."

Another said: "Jon Snow says goodbye to everyone In Winterfell...Yet doesn't even pet Ghost. What a load of bullshit."

A third added: "Can we all agree the real villain here is Jon Snow for not saying goodbye to Ghost?"

Now everyone just wants a spinoff show of Tormund and Ghost getting up to funny nonsense in the Wild. That's something we could all watch.
