Young Darci Lynne has been crowned the winner of America's Got Talent 2017, after impressing the judges and the country with a performance that swiftly went viral. The 12-year-old will receive the whopping $1 million (£736,540) cheque for winning the competition before she headlines a show in Las Vegas.

Darci was touted as a top contender ever since her audition, when she appeared on stage with her colourful rabbit, Petunia, and blew everyone away with her ventriloquist act and singing skills.

The Oklahoma City girl's final performance involved singing the Beatles classic 'With A Little Help From My Friends', where she used two puppets.

Darci was fighting back tears as she stood on stage with her opponent, 10-year-old singer Angelica Hale. But when her name was read out by host Tyra Banks, she dropped to the floor, overcome with emotion. Angelica didn't skip a beat and immediately hugged her victorious opponent, before Darci's two brothers stormed the stage to pick her up.

Tyra said the show had received the highest number of votes from the American public in AGT's history, with 52m coming in when lines were opened.

During the finale, world-renowned ventriloquist Jeff Dunham met with Darci and congratulated her for trying to keep the craft alive. He told her: "I'm so proud of you [and] everything you've been doing."

Darci used a variety of puppets across the show, including a mouse named Oscar and the hilarious senior citizen, Edna Doorknocker, who had a very big crush on judge Simon Cowell.

Angelica was a suitable top two competitor, belting out Clean Bandit's 'Symphony', which stunned the judges and led to a standing ovation. Judge Hedi Klum told the 10-year-old: "Oh my gosh, you are only four feet tall, but you are a giant! Unbelievable!

"And you know, Angelica, for me, I think you are the best singer we have in this entire competition."

It was a star-studded finale with Kelly Clarkson, James Arthur, Shania Twain and Academy Award-winning actor Marlee Matlin involved.

With Darci and Angelica taking out the top two spots, third place went to Ukrainian dance crew Light Balance. Hearing-impaired singer Mandy Harvey took out fourth, with Canadian dog-trainer Sara and her dog Hero coming in fifth.

Darci and Angelica are among some of the youngest competitors to reach the final two in America's Got Talent.
