For fans of Keanu Reeves we've got some very good news for you: filming for the third instalment to the John Wick series will kick off next week.

That's according to Screen Rant, who says production will be getting underway on 26 April.

That will be music to many people's ears and then we can look forward to mid-May next year when the epic film will be released.

The original John Wick was released in October 2014, becoming somewhat of a surprising success, grossing $88 million worldwide. The sequel, Chapter 2, released last year, was clearly eagerly anticipated, smashing the previous figures by making $171 million at the box office.

It's possible that with a little more than a year to go until the third arrives that hype will build enough for yet another incredible take.

There have been a few details leaked about the upcoming film.

According to Omega Underground, Hiroyuki Sanada, who has starred in The Wolverine and The Last Samurai, is tipped to play the movie's villain and that casting for a number of Japanese actors has begun.

It's been suggested that Sananda might be playing a representative of the Yakuza at the High Table.

As well as filming in Montreal, which was where the second movie was partially filmed, the website speculates that Japan could be a possible location.

Screen Rant reports that shooting will also take place in Morocco and Jordan, as well as potentially Russia and Spain - hopefully the cast and crew get the airmiles because that is a lot of travelling.

But once the third film is released, fans will again by waiting for new material and that won't be too far off the horizon.

A spin-off TV show - The Continental - is also in the works and it will focus on the Continental Hotel, a refuge for assassins, and is set to air on Starz.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht told the Hollywood Reporter: "This series is truly unlike anything else on TV.

"The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introduce some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world."

That's a lot of hype to live up to but judging from the past two chapters of the John Wick franchise, it will no doubt be bloody awesome.
