New London Exhibition Will Plunge Visitors Into Black Mirror Episode

New London Exhibition Will Plunge Visitors Into Black Mirror Episode

This could be sick.

Black Mirror brings us dystopian futures which don't actually seem like a stretch of the imagination.

And now, one of the episodes is being brought to life.

London's Barbican Centre will host an exhibition called 'Into the Unknown: A Journey Through Science Fiction'.

The Silk Street entrance will be transformed to resemble the 15 Million Merits episode - which looked at the world's love for reality TV talent contests. In the episode, ordinary people are dressed in grey tracksuits and sit on exercise bikes every day to notch up merit points. If you saved up enough points you could audition on the show Hot Shot.

It highlighted the over dramatization of shows like X Factor and Pop Idol and the idea that the public is stuck in a sort of hamster wheel looking for cheap entertainment.

The exhibition, which opens June 3, will feature cuts and frames from the episode on multiple screens - providing an immersive experience.

It will also look at the history of science fiction as a genre and see how it has changed over the years. Sci-fi fans will get a close look at props from Alien, Jurassic Park and Godzilla.

Fandom for Black Mirror has grown over the years since the show debuted in 2011. People thought creator Charlie Brooker possessed the powers of foresight after the first episode. In The National Anthem, the fictitious British Prime Minister is forced to have sex with a pig on national TV after a Royal member was kidnapped.

Four years after the episode aired, rumours arose that the then actual British Prime Minister David Cameron stuck a 'private part of his anatomy' into a dead pig's mouth during a university initiation ceremony.

The show even tweeted after Donald Trump won the 2016 US Presidential Election saying it wasn't another twisted Black Mirror episode.

Personally, I love season three's opening episode, Nosedive, as it is such a brilliant take on how obsessed we can become with being popular online.

But fans are aching to find out when the next season is released. Charlie told the Telegraph the new season will have a different genre to the rest with 'strikingly different tones and looks'.

He said: "We've got one that's overtly comic, much more overtly comic than anything we've done. It's got fairly mainstream comic elements, but also some really unpleasant stuff that happens. I haven't even seen the rough cut of it yet.

"Then, Jodie Foster's done one, that's more got the tone of an indie movie, an indie drama. There's a mother and daughter relationship in it.

"The one we're about to shoot is a crime thriller. And we're doing one that's got relationships at the heart of it.

"And then five and six are slightly still up for grabs."

I, for one, am very excited to see how they mix things up.
