The ‘Super Troopers’ Sequel Finally Has A Release Date

And it couldn't be a more perfect date.

When news broke that Super Troopers 2 had finally finished post-production, social media went into a frenzy. Everyone was thinking that once the movie was finished, fans could see the new instalment soon, right? RIGHT?

Well, the world has now learned just how long we have to wait; and the producers of the sequel have picked the best possible day for it to be released.

Super Troopers 2 will come out April 20 next year, aka 4/20.

Steve Lemme, who plays State Trooper MacIntyre 'Mac' Womack, didn't actually specify that date, but he gave everyone the clues they needed during an interview with Seven Days: "There is, but I can't tell you what it is. Here's what I can tell you: It's springtime and there's a very obvious date, which happens to fall on a Friday this year."

He's also elaborated on what fans can expect from the film: "Well, we do all have cell phones in this movie. But otherwise, it seems like time has stood still for these state troopers.

"Which is good, because we didn't really want to answer the question of where these guys have been for the last 15 years, although we do answer it."

Kevin Heffernan, Erik Stolhanske, Paul Soter and Steve Lemme of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard will all reprise their roles as state troopers who get up to all sorts of idiotic things.

But it was no easy feat to get to this stage, despite the fact that the original movie (which was released in 2001), made a hefty $23 million (£17.8 million) at the box office. The producers of the movie put the sequel through a crowdfunding site to get the money to cast, film, edit and release the sequel.

In an amazing show of communal passion, more than $4.6 million (£3.5 million) was raised on IndieGoGo, which was more than double the intended target.

Kevin Heffernan posted an update on Broken Lizard's website two weeks ago, saying: "We've posted about how we've been doing test screenings already and some folks were confused how we do that if the film was not technically 'done'. The reality is that those screenings are done with an unfinished product: temp sound and music stuffed in and a low-res picture.

"It's important to do those screenings before everything is locked in, so we can see what works and what doesn't, what jokes play and what jokes suck and then make adjustments accordingly. But at some point, you have to stop that process and lock everything in. The sound mix and the colour correction mark the end of that process. Both are exciting, not just because they are the final steps, but because they vastly improve the film.

"With the picture and sound done, we marry the two together and boom.... final product. We've been in post for the last eight months, always looking at an unfinished product. Now we get to watch the film in all its glory.... and that is an amazing feeling."

Now there's less than 246 days until it's expected to be released.
