We first met Ivan Drago in the fourth installment of the Rocky series back in 1985, when the Russian Olympic gold medalist and amateur boxing champ became Rocky Balboa's rival.

In an interesting twist, Stallone then told us that the character would be returning for the forthcoming Creed 2 - the sequel to a reboot that not everyone wanted, but was a surprising hit among Rocky fans.

"It wouldn't be a party without Drago, would it?" he told TMZ Sports. "I'm gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.

Now he's taken it one step further, teasing an image of Ivan Drago in action ahead of the film's release later this year - and, even more excitingly, Drago's son.

With the slightly wrinkly Rocky and Drago looming in the back of the promotional image under hoods, at the forefront is Adonis Creed - the son of Rocky's pal Apollo, played by Michael B. Jordan - and his new rival, who's played by Romanian heavyweight boxer Florian Munteanu.

Munteanu hasn't got many acting credits to his name, but with a nickname of 'Big Nasty' and weighing in at a massive 245 pounds, it sounds like he's a pretty perfect fit.

Fans were quick to respond to Stallone's Instagram image, taking it as firm proof that the upcoming film would be pretty epic.

"OMG! This is gonna be DOPE," wrote one person.

Another said: "This movie is gonna be fire man. Come on."

One wrote: "I can hardly wait! Loved the first film."

And it seems Dolph Lundgren, who will reprise his role of Ivan Drago, is similarly excited, having posted a video to Instagram to show that he's been getting his body in shape for the sequel.

Stallone then uploaded another image depicting Dolph in the new film, captioning the post: "A WINNER IS JUST A PROUD LOSER WHO NEVER STOPPED TRYING! .... the Son is Rising!"

Creed 2 is expected to premiere this year in mid-November, with Steven Caple Jr taking over directorial credits from Ryan Coogler.

Fans are still trying to work out what it's going to be about, clutching onto any little detail that Sly feeds us. However, the synopsis online does give away a few details: "Adonis Creed tries to seek revenge when he goes toe to toe with the man who killed his father."

Other than that, you'll just have to wait until later this year to find out.
