Charlize Theron Confirms Mindhunter Season 2 Will Drop This August

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show recently, Theron explained we only have to wait until summer for the second season

The first season of Mindhunter dropped a year and a half ago, meaning we've been waiting a pretty freakin' long time for any kind of follow-up.

Thankfully, though, we now have word that we'll be getting our second fix very soon, as executive producer Charlize Theron has revealed season two is dropping this summer.

Speaking on The Howard Stern Show recently, Theron explained: "Season two is coming out in August.

"I can't wait - deep, dark, it's wonderful."

Which, of course, is excellent news.

Theron didn't give us an exact date, but I reckon we can work with August - no one's ever doing much in August, so I think we'll all be able to pencil in a day or two for a bit of a Netflix binge.

Fans were hyped to hear the news, with one person tweeting: "Love this show sooo much, I can't wait!"

Someone else said: "About time!! Can't wait!!"

A third added: "I'm so happy right now."

Set in 1977, the show explores the psychology of serial killers and the ways in which we catch murderers, perfectly feeding into the prevailing obsession for all things true crime.

Netflix officially confirmed the second season on 30 November 2017 (as in, absolutely yonks ago), posting a video with the line: "We need to talk to more subjects."

Director David Fincher confirmed that the second season will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, which took place between 1979 and 1981 and saw the murders of 28 children in Atlanta, Georgia.

Fincher - who will return to direct a few of the episodes while others are shot by Andrew Dominik and Carl Franklin - told Billboard: "Next year we're looking at the Atlanta child murders, so we'll have a lot more African American music which will be nice."

He added: "The music will evolve. It's intended to support what's happening with the show and for the show to evolve radically between seasons."

So far, that's pretty much all we know right now, other than the fact it's going to be 'deep' and 'dark' - which we'd have probably guessed anyway, given the subject matter.

The first season was nominated for several awards and was highly praised both viewers and critics alike, so fingers crossed the programme's second instalment can follow in those footsteps.

Given the show's creators will have had nearly two years to get things up to scratch, I'm hoping that means we can expect big things.
