Chris Evans offered his support to best supporting actress Regina King at tonight's Oscars.

The Captain America star stepped into help King as she took the stairs to the stage to pick up her award.

The actress scooped the best supporting actress gong for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk, and was sat a few seats away from Evans.

After her name was read out, King stood up to approach the stage but got her trailing skirt caught on one of heels, which could have been seriously bad news, but quick as could be, Evans was on his feet and offering King an arm so she could ascend to the stage gracefully.

Viewers were pretty impressed with Evan's gentlemanly display with one person tweeting to say: "Chris Evans teaching me how to be a real man."

Another wrote: "This just melted my heart."

A third added: "Captain America making sure Regina King had a flawless walk on stage to accept her Oscar."

Even Jamie Lee Curtis was impressed:

Later Evans presented an award alongside Jennifer Lopez, presenting the Achievement in Production Design to Black Panther.

He was seen celebrating on stage after the award was read out, obviously proud that his Marvel Cinematic Universe colleagues were getting a gong.

This is the first year that the Oscars doesn't have a single host, after the decision was made to hand over hosting duties to a number of stars including Serena Williams, Jason Momoa and Paul Rudd.

Evans was one of a number of stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has got a handful of nominations for Black Panther and a single nomination for Avengers: Infinity War. Black Panther has made history this evening, being the first ever super-hero movie to be nominated for the coveted Best Picture award alongside A Star is Born, Vice, Green Book, Roma, BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite and Bohemian Rhapsody.
