The third season of Designated Survivor is now on Netflix, ready for you to catch up with Tom Kirkman and co.

The show, in which Kiefer Sutherland plays a man who becomes the President of the United States of America after an explosion kills everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of succession, was cancelled by ABC back in 2018.

However, thankfully Netflix came along and scooped it up, having added series three of gripping political thriller to its service yesterday.

Sharing the good news, Kiefer Sutherland tweeted: "Depending on where you live, Designated Survivor Season 3 is either minutes or hours from starting. If you check it out I hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it."

Fans of the show were glad to be reunited with Sutherland's Kirkham - especially when the fate of the programme looked murky at one point - with one tweeting: "Oh yes!! We miss you Mr President! So happy!"

Someone else commented: "Absolutely love this - so glad it was picked up by Netflix."

A third wrote: "That's my next binge until it's over with forever to wait for season 4."

The new series will have 10 episodes and will see President Kirkman battle it out to be re-elected as the United States' president.

That means we're likely to see the ugly side of the campaign trail. Shady financial dealings, smearing of opponents, televised debate points-scoring, the lot.

Ahead of the new season, Sutherland told Deadline: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play President Kirkman for season 3 of Designated Survivor with Netflix, eOne and [the show's new showrunner] Neal Baer.

"I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible."

Netflix's Bela Bajaria added: "Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the US and Canada in its first two seasons.

"The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season and we are excited to bring the first 2 seasons to our US and Canadian members as well."
