It's been barely a week since I spoke about how us R&M fans were beginning to get despondent. We thought it was going the way of Half Life 3... never happening.

Then, out of nowhere, they dropped the first episode of season three on April Fool's Day.

No-one could believe it. When I was informed on Sunday morning, I told my friend to piss off and accused them of just trying to wake me up. Not in a million years was Rick and Morty on, they would've announced it, surely?

That's the brilliance of Adult Swim, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. They trolled us good.

There's much more to them than just their trolling abilities though. Everyone's been picking apart the latest episode in order to find all the Easter eggs. You know, all those little added bits that give the show some extra depth. There's often things in the background, but generally we've noticed them all after watching and re-watching seasons one and two about 100 times while we waited for season three. So this new episode got us all... excited.

Strap yourselves in, what people have discovered is awesome.

'You either die the Morty or live long enough to see yourself become the Rick.'

When Rick and Morty are at the Council of Ricks, there's a Rick in the background who is effectively an amalgamation of the pair. What's this about? Some have suggested it may be a reference to an incestuous relationship... but we'll never know. Probably.

Mr Poopy Butthole was telling the truth the whole time

Credit: Sascha Friedrich

So as we all know, at the end of season two, Mr Poopy Butthole says: "Tune into Rick and Morty season three in like, a year and a half? Or longer."

Well it turns out it wasn't just the nonsensical ramblings of a creature on painkillers. He was pretty much exactly on the money. 1 year, five months and 28 days.

The house in Rick's memory is from 'Breaking Bad'

This is my absolute favourite Easter egg out of the lot. How did anyone notice this? It's the exact same house. Fucking brilliant.

Dicks out 'til Rick's out

This is a small one (lol) but when Rick manages to trick himself out of his memory and leaves the Galactic Federation agent behind. As he's transported out, you see a little flash of his dick. Nice.

The last scene almost identical the last scene from episode one season one

So at the end of season one, episode one, Rick tells Morty that they're going to go on lots of adventures. He goes off on a super long tangent while Morty lies on the floor suffering the aftereffects of the mega seeds being up his arsehole.

He says: "It's just Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty and their adventures, Morty.. RICK AND MORTY FOREVER AND FOREVER A HUNDRED YEARS. Rick and Morty... some... things... Me and Rick and Morty runnin' around and... Rick and Morty time... a- all day long forever... all a - a hundred days Rick and Morty! Forever a hundred times.... over and over Rick and Morty... adventures dot com.. W W W dot at Rick and Morty dot com w..w..w... Rick and Morty adventures.. ah- hundred years..... every minute Rick and Morty dot com.... w w w a hundred times... Rick and Morty dot com..."

In the last scene of the new episode, Rick has Morty on the floor (again) and instead says: "I just took over the family, Morty, and if you tell your mom or sister I said any of this, I'll deny it. And they'll take my side because I'm a hero, Morty. Now you're gonna do whatever I say. FOREVER, And I'll go out and find some more of that Mulan Szechuan teriyaki dipping sauce, Morty. Because this is what this is all about, Morty.

"That's my one arm man, Morty. I'm not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty. That was fake. I'm driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan dipping sauce, Morty, that's my series arc. If it takes nine seasons, I want my dipping sauce Szechuan sauce. That's what's gonna take us all the way to the end. Season nine, nine more seasons until I get that dipping Szechuan sauce."

Dan Harmon got divorced between season two and season three

The credits now reflect that.

Gravity Falls' Dipper and Mabel-type Mortys

Credit: Adult Swim

Hopefully, you've seen Gravity Falls. If not, why not? It's a brilliant cartoon, weirdly made by Disney but great nonetheless. These two characters seem to be a nod to the show.

I believe this 100%. Especially as the creators of Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty are friends. In fact, the man behind Gravity Falls even Tweeted about it.

Lizard Rick at the Council of Ricks

This one has no real significance, it's just pretty cool that in one alternate universe there's a lizard version of Rick. Sweet.

Rick watching the 9/11 attacks

Credit: Adult Swim

It's quite hard to make out what Rick's saying while he and the agent are in his memories. The agent remarks that the day he made the portal gun was situated between his memory of what his reaction was when he found out about the 9/11 attacks and his favourite football blooper.

Rick can be heard shouting: "They're going to use this to strip away our freedom!"

So Beth and Jerry are divorcing, is this where Paul comes in?

Credit: Adult Swim

In the second episode of the second season (Mortynight Run), Jerry is placed in Jerryboree, a cross-temporal daycare designed specifically for Jerrys. He comes across a man named Paul Fleischman who explains that in some universes, Beth remarries after divorcing Jerry. Now Beth and Jerry are divorcing, is their universe one that was being referenced? Is Paul going to be a new character? Only time will tell.

Jerry still loves Doofus Rick

Credit: Adult Swim

In the episode, Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind, Jerry meets Doofus Rick. He's the least respected out of all of the Ricks, but he and Jerry form a really strong friendship. So much so, that once he leaves, he stands outside the Smith's home in the rain just so he can look at Jerry. It's weirdly sweet.

Well in season three, Rick's been locked up, so all of his stuff in the garage has been packed up and Jerry has taken over. You can see in the cupboard that he has a little framed picture of his best mate. Cute.

There's a reference to Dan Harmon's sexual fetish

Credit: Adult Swim

So at one point, Morty and Summer are digging up Rick's corpse in order to find the portal gun so that they can go and save him. Morty says: "We could put it right back and pretend we never saw it. Like we did with dad's mannequin leg." This is a reference to co-creator Dan Harmon's mannequin leg fetish.

In his podcast, Harmontown, he mentions this several times.

So there you go. That's all of the Easter eggs so far. If you've spotted any others - let us know. Email [email protected] or head over to Rick and Morty Schwiftposting on Facebook, it's basically a massive group of over 340,000 Rick and Morty superfans who've managed to find loads of things.
