The trailer for new fantasy epic The Dark Tower has just dropped, and it looks awesome!

Adapted from Stephen King's cult series of novels, the film sees Idris Elba star as the 'last gunslinger', Roland Deschain, alongside Matthew McConaughey's evil sorcerer Walter Padick - more commonly known as The Man In Black.

The story follows Deschain's quest as he seeks to find the titular tower and save his dimension, Mid World, from destruction from the sorcerer.

Ahead of the launch, the two big Hollywood actors teased the release of the trailer, using lines from the film to do so.

Originally developed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams as an idea back in the noughties, the film has had a rather complicated journey from page to screen. In 2010, Ron Howard took over, before a 2015 announcement that Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel would occupy the director's chair.

Filming then began in 2016, with the release date pushed back twice by film studio Sony. It will hit the US on 4 August, while British viewers will have to wait another two weeks for its 18 August release date.

It's not the only Stephen King adaptation hitting cinemas this year: in March, the trailer dropped for horror film IT - based on the 1986 novel, and memorably filmed as a TV miniseries in 1990, with Tim Curry playing the sinister Pennywise.

IT's teaser sets scene perfectly to leave us wanting more, with the two letters of the title set in blood-red within the sewer.

Director, Andres Muschietti said: "It's established that Pennywise takes the shape of your worst fear."

"He doesn't have a steady behaviour," he continued. He doesn't expose how he thinks, and that's what makes him really unpredictable.

"And because no-one knows what he'll do next or how, the space between appearances - with the occasional red balloon creepily floating by - becomes a feeling of dread that grows in people's minds.''

It looks utterly batshit.
