There Are Some Incredible Movie Sequels Coming Out In 2019

There Are Some Incredible Movie Sequels Coming Out In 2019

Popcorn at the ready!

EMS 7

EMS 7

If you thought 2018 was a major year for franchise movies, just wait until 2019 hits. Probably the most talked about sequel is Avengers: Endgame - and whether or not Paul Rudd is going to save the universe from the wrath of Thanos.

But that's just one of a whole host of sequels, threequels and... quadquels? Doesn't quite have the same ring to it... anyway, there's loads of 'em making their way to cinemas over the next year.

So if you're already anticipating the post-festive slum, chin up, because there's a whole lotta cinematic sequels to get your chops around in 2019. Check out the full list below...

IT: Chapter 2

6 September 2019

Pennywise in 'IT'.
Warner Bros.

The latest adaptation of Stephen King's classic story is set 30 years after the events of the 2017 reboot and so an entirely new cast will join the ranks as the Losers' Club, post-Pennywise. And yes, Bill Skarsgård will be stepping back into those clown-shoes to reprise the role he played horrifyingly well.

Needless to say, get your big person pants on to watch this film - it's apparently going to be even more terrifying than the first.

Glass

18 January 2019

James McAvoy in 'Glass'.
Universal Pictures

Glass is the unexpected third entry in M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable trilogy, following on from 2000's Unbreakable and 2016's Split. The story brings together all of your favourite characters from the previous films, including Bruce Willis as David Dunn, Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price and James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb (and the many batshit identities who reside within).

The film is described as an 'explosive, all-new comic-book thriller' and will no doubt feature some sort of OMG twist at the end. This is Shyamalan we're talking about, after all.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2

13 December 2019

The Rock in 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'.
Sony Pictures

If Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was the reboot we never knew we needed, then Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2 is its sequel equivalent.

Like it or loathe it, the film is happening and of course Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is involved - alongside Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, who are all expected to return. More on this to come.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

31 May 2019

Warner Bros. released the first-look trailer for the follow-up to the 2014 Godzilla reboot at this year's Comic-Con and made fans lose their shit with excitement in the process.

The opening shows Millie Bobby Brown (aka Eleven from Stranger Things) escaping disaster as monsters make their return to Earth, offering just a teaser to the story that is reportedly set five years after the first movie, focusing on the world after it was transformed by Godzilla's initial attacks.

We also spotted a fair few titans, including King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra. In other words, there's some serious competition for Godzilla to go up against.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

5 July 2019

Marvel Studios

Tom Holland - who will once again play Peter Parker - revealed that the follow-up to Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming will centre on Spider-Man and Mysterio as they team up to take on the Elementals.

With Holland back on board, Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio and Marvelmania in full force across the globe, our Spidey Senses tell us ar From Home is set to be a box office hit.

Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

5 April 2019

StudioCanal

Is anyone going to see this? Possibly not, unless you've got kids - in which case, have a ball!

(Side note: In no way is this disrespect to the source material. Wallace and Gromit will forever hold a special place in our hearts.)

Kingsman 3

8 November 2019

Neither Taron Egerton nor Colin Firth look likely to return for the third Kingsman film.
20th Century Fox

In case you somehow haven't heard already, the Kingsman series is returning in the form of a threequel next year.

Yes, the UK's elite team of secret agents are returning in 2019 with director Matthew Vaughn teaming up with Jane Goldman on the script, which is expected to close out the trilogy by wrapping up Eggsy and Harry Hart's story.

And if that's not enough for you, there's also supposedly a prequel on the way...

Frozen 2

29 November 2019

All your favourites from Frozen are set to return in 2019.
Disney/Pixar

The House of Mouse refuses to let it go with this one (yeah, I went there). What with Frozen being the highest-grossing animation of all time, it was inevitable it would get a sequel. Plot details are currently kept under wraps so keep your eyes peeled - more on this to come.

John Wick 3: Parabellum

16 May 2019

Keanu Reeves' bloodthirsty assassin is back for another round in Chad Stahelski's John Wick 3: Parabellum - a neo-noir thriller that will serve as a conclusion to the John Wick film trilogy.

So what can we expect from the long-awaited flick? According to Stahelski, plenty of 'horses, dogs, cats, a raven, a bunch of pigeons, a motorcycle chase, car chase, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, shotguns, and ninjas.''

And if that doesn't float your boat, we can no longer be friends. It's not me, it's you.

Zombieland 2

11 October 2019

Will Bill Murray return for Zombieland 2?
Columbia Pictures

We can hardly catch our breath, we're so excited for this one. Although there's a level of apprehension over whether the creators of the comedy-horror masterpiece can nail the sequel like they did with the original, we are keeping our hopes up. Especially since the Zombieland cast have confirmed cast have confirmed they will be returning to sprinkle some magic on the follow-up.

Yes, that includes Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Woody freakin' Harrelson. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed that Bill Murray will be making another glorious cameo too.

Toy Story 4

21 June 2019

It's a quadquel (yeah, that doesn't work) for Pixar's most successful animated flick of all time. Although it seemed like the end of the road for the toy-team after Andy moved to college, Woody, Buzz and the gang will be back and they're set to meet a new toy friend called 'Forky' who joins the team as they embark on a road trip.

It's the fourquel (also doesn't work) no one asked for, but it's happening nonetheless and there's not a lot we can do about it - aside from pray it doesn't shit all over the franchise.

Avengers: Endgame

24 April 2019

'Avengers: Infinity War' supervillain Thanos.
Marvel

Arguably the most anticipated movie on this list, the chaser to the Russo Brothers' Avengers: Infinity War will see what's left of the superheroes attempting to pick up the pieces after Thanos wiped out half of the universes' population with his finger snap massacre.

Here's hoping the evil titan suffers some sort of comeuppance in Avengers: Endgame and here's hoping it involves the Ruddmeister. Gotta love that guy.

Star Wars: Episode IX

19 December 2019

Disney

Set to give Avengers: Endgame a run for its money is JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode IX - the third and final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Not a lot to say as the plot details are on the downlow right now, but you can bet that it'll contain a lotta action, a lotta cheesy quips and a lotta CGI.

So there you have it, people - told you there was a lot coming your way in 2019. Popcorn at the ready!
