There have been plenty of fan theories emerge since Avengers: Infinity War premiered last month, with viewers certain they know what really happened and why. We'll say it now, don't read on if you don't like spoilers.

But this latest one seems to be pretty concrete in order for the fourth instalment of the Avengers franchise to be a win for the superheroes.

Sadly, because Peter Quill aka Star-Lord aka Chris Pratt couldn't contain his anger, Thanos managed to get the last two stones for his powerful bracelet and he goes on to kill half of the universe.

Yeah - a shit load.

While Marvel and Disney could go into the fourth Avengers film with half their arsenal, it wouldn't be a good idea now, would it. Here's where Dr Strange comes in.

People were kind of annoyed with Strange when he handed over the Time Stone to Thanos, but that anger is very short sighted when you're dealing with this superhero.

The Sorcerer Supreme is able to look into the future and work out millions of possibilities. So fans are thinking that Strange handed over his precious stone because he knew that was the only direction he could go in order to ensure the survival of the universe.

A Redditor wrote: "He knew that Thanos had to snap his fingers at that exact right time and under all these certain conditions for them to win. He's setting up Captain Marvel's return to Earth.

"I believe he'll appear in the Captain Marvel movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel.

"He warns him of an event in the future [referring] to the people turning to dust without warning.

"This is why Fury's instant reaction to seeing Maria Hill turn to ash was to run to the pager, but what our good friend Sorcerer Supreme didn't mention was the fact that he does not survive hence the "Mother Fu..." at the very end.

"We should also take note that the way he says it isn't [panicked] or scared, he's confident that Strange knows what he's doing."

The Captain Marvel film, with Brie Larson cast as the female superhero, comes out just two months before Avengers 4, so if we see a cameo from Benedict Cumberbatch then you'll know this theory is true.
