The internet - or at least the large section of it that is dominated by Harry Potter fans - broke yesterday when the trailer for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel dropped.

Fans were amazed by the return of Eddie Redmayne's magizoologist and, of course, by the first sight of Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore.

Others freaked at the idea that the next film was going to move predominantly to Paris, while some even got themselves in a fluster that the credits included 'Wizarding World' as a thing, giving the impression that JK Rowling was going to start a whole film universe - similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - devoted to the franchise.

It's almost as if Harry Potter fans are slightly over-excitable.

They might be over-excitable, but they are certainly pedantic. Of course, this is a series predicated on the idea of magic, so JK Rowling can basically explain anything away as that, but some of the most hardcore Potterheads out there were nevertheless quick to point out a few discrepancies in the trailer.

In fact, you didn't have to be a superfan to notice the major problem. In the opening bit of the trailer, shortly before the bit where they introduce the Jude Law Dumbledore (try saying that five times with something in your gob), a coterie of wizards apparate into Hogwarts, despite the school being apparently impossible to apparate into.

Now, I'm no Harry Potter superfan - but even I knew that.

Twitter filled with Potter experts points out this glaring plothole.

"This isn't nitpicking. The inability to apparate within Hogwarts is an important plot device in nearly every book!" wrote one, pointing out that even Muggles like me knew this particular plot point. She's right - several of the books do kind of fall apart if you can just disappear on a whim.

Others postulated that the trailer might be about to explain it all - "Has it always been a rule one cannot apparate within Hogwarts grounds? Maybe we find out why the rule exists. But you could also be right that it wasn't really on the grounds. I think the former. It was put in the trailer for a reason," wrote one optimistic fan.

Either way, we'll find out in November when the film is finally released.
