The Fast and Furious franchise seems to be a cockroach that never dies.

Don't get me wrong, they're a fun-filled, action-packed, adrenaline-rushing series that has raked in more than $5 billion at the Box Office, becoming the eighth highest grossing film franchise of all time.

After eight movies and even a spin-off starring The Rock and Jason Statham, it seems as though the cast isn't done with the franchise.

According to MovieWeb, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez, filming for Fast and Furious 9 will get underway next month.

Yep, they've managed to make a ninth one.

The site adds that while a specific date hasn't been set, it seems as though filming will start in London. The Rock has previously stated his wish that the franchise could continue as long as possible.

Last year he said: "When you have a franchise that is as successful as the Fast and Furious franchise, the goal, certainly my goal, was always to try and create a scenario where we have as much longevity as we possibly can have."

And if you thought the action scenes or plot were outrageous in the previous installations, buckle up, because the ninth episode could be even bigger.

The Fate of the Furious director F Gary Gray told ScreenRant: "Outer space? Listen, I wouldn't rule anything out with this franchise. When I read 'submarine' [in The Fate of the Furious], I'm like, 'OK, anything's possible'.

"You never know. I haven't read 'Dom on Mars' yet, but again, you just never know."

It will be interesting to see how they weave the storyline from the eighth film into the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off and then back into the ninth, or will it just be a standalone with no impact on the franchise?

These are all questions that will be answered in good time.

In terms of a release date, everyone was gearing up for April this year, however that had to be pushed back to 2020.

Vin Diesel wrote on Instagram: "I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed. But it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault.

"Like any vehicle that has run around the globe eight times, the franchise is in need of maintenance. My good friend and the godfather of Universal, Ron Meyer has granted me the time to do just that."

It will be interesting to see who will return as well, with Tyrese Gibson feuding with The Rock over social media and reports that Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel didn't enjoy shooting scenes together.
