'First Dates' Has The Nation In Tears Over Man Forced To Live In Shed

We're all sobbing after hearing Max on 'First Dates' reflecting on his childhood in the garden shed

We love a good sob story on First Dates, but nothing prepared us for what 24-year-old Max had to say on last night's show.

Max, after describing his perfect woman as a 'combination of a Disney princess and Tony Hawk the skateboarder' was paired up with 22-year-old Esther, a fellow lover of language and linguistics.

His slightly awkward demeanour and his self-confessed inability to talk to girls - "In terms of your favourite sizes of card, mine's an A4. What about you?" - all started to make sense when Max began to explain his non-conventional upbringing to a shocked Esther.

Speaking on the show, Max said, "It's a funny one with my parents because I spent so many hours alone."

He then paused and fidgeted, before revealing that he spent many years of his childhood living outside in the garden shed.

We are all Esther at this point.

"When my little sister was born when we moved house, from the age of 11 to the age of 16, I was in the garden shed," Max said.

"It was wood but inside it was painted white. I had a bed in there and I had an electric radiator so it wasn't 100 percent bad."

"I would just sit there and draw and write poetry."

He goes on to talk about how spending so much time alone in the shed made him develop a deep love for school.

"It was because of the attention, probably. I was upset about how much I loved school. I get upset about it now."

His traumatic confession captured viewers' hearts and comments started to flood in shaming his parents for what they did to poor Max.

One Twitter user wrote: "Max. My heart breaks for you. I want to punch your parents in the face for what they've done! Despite your experience, you're such a lovely guy."

Another added: "So sad for Max, why do some people have kids?"

But perhaps the most tragic twist in the tale was yet to come - despite an eager Esther willing to find out more about the slightly awkward but endearing Max, he said no to a second date. Apparently, he thinks he'd just be wasting her time. Why, Max, why?

Too. Many. Emotions.
