The first trailer for Bad Boys For Life is finally here, ahead of its long-awaited release next year.

It's been 17 years since we got to see detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) in action, but now fans don't have too long a wait until the new flick lands, with it set to hit cinemas in January next year.

In the meantime, you'll have to be content with the trailer, which shows the duo reunite to take down a drug cartel in Atlanta.

"One last time," the pair say to each other in the trailer.

After all this time, you'd expect our dynamic duo to be older and wiser, but it's evident from the very beginning that little has changed - as Marcus bumps his car door on a fire hydrant, and he and Mike start bickering.

Their work as detectives seems no more streamlined, either.

Despite plans to knock on someone's door and speak to them calmly, Mike ends up kicking the door in suddenly to bust into the apartment, yelling: "LAPD! Get down."

A baffled Marcus shouts: "What the hell happened to 'knock and talk'?!"

As well as Smith and Lawrence, Joe Pantaliano will be returning to the role of Captain Howard, as well as Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio and Paola Nuñez.

DJ Khaled will also be appearing and is set to play a character called Manny the Butcher - well, he sounds nice...

The news of a new movie within the franchise was shared on social media by Smith, who posted a clip of him and Lawrence, in which he said: "No, no, I'm telling y'all, I'm telling y'all, this is crazy, wait, wait, just wait... it's official, it's official. Bad Boys 3, it's happening, it's official. I'm telling you that's it - no more, you can't handle no more."

He captioned the clip: "It's been a LOOOONG time coming. But now it's Here! @BadBoys For Life. We back!! @martinlawrence."

Lawrence also shared the video, captioning it: "It's official. Bad Boys for Life. #teammartymar #badboysforlife@willsmith #weback."

The official Bad Boys Instagram account has been teasing fans with behind-the-scene photos showing the stars on set. Back in April, the account confirmed filming had wrapped on the movie and since then we've all been (not so) patiently waiting for a trailer.

The new movie has a reported budget of around $100 million (£77.8m) so we can expect some pretty decent stunts and plenty of action.

Bad Boys For Life is released on 17 January 2020.
