HBO is really teasing fans now - the US TV network has now announced on Twitter that it's only days away from dropping the exact release date for the final season of Game of Thrones.

On the Game of Thrones official Twitter, there was a retweet of a post by HBO which included the comment: "The north remembers."

Basically, HBO has said the actually GOT release date - sometime in April - will drop in the advertisement before True Detective is aired.

This obviously made fans absolutely lose their shit.

One person tweeted: "Guess I'll be watching True Detective for sure."

Another said: "@HBO Sunday needs to get here!"

"Send all the ravens!!" a third commented.

While some people were just excited to get a release date, others have started demanding HBO drops a new trailer too.

"When will it remember to release the trailer?" one Twitter user questioned.

Another said: "Did you just tease us before the teaser/trailer?"

HBO has been keeping things very hush hush when it comes to the hotly-anticipated season 8 - keeping fans on the edge of their seats with occasional nuggets of information.

One thing fans definitely know about the final season is that it's only going to be six episodes long - however, before you get to upset the HBO CEO Richard Plepler has told audiences that each new episode is like 'watching a movie'. Six of them, in fact.

Obviously, the man at the top has already had a look at the new series (lucky bastard) and told Variety in an interview: "It's a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, 'I'm watching a movie.'"

This is pretty much what fans have been waiting for, right? And with director David Nutter already having confirmed that each episode will be feature-length, it looks like we're in for a truly cinematic experience.

As far as having a trailer dropped HBO, again, have kept tight hold of any spoilers by only releasing some of the smallest snippets in larger trailers.

Among the HBO shows trailer there is a five-second clip showing the moment Daenerys meets Sansa - which is always expected to be a true fire-meets-ice moment.

It shows Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, approaching Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) in Winterfell - which we all know belongs to the Starks, and has been theirs for thousands of years.

There must've been some kind of deal brokered here because in the trailer Sansa is seen saying to Daenerys: "Winterfell is yours, your Grace."

It may be spring when the new series hits in April, but winter is definitely coming for GOT fans.
