What a fight!

For the past eight seasons, Game of Thrones has been building towards an epic fight.

Sure, the one between the Night King and Jon Snow was incredible, as was the one with Dany against Cersei, but the one that has fans so bloody excited was the Cleganebowl: the battle between The Mountain and The Hound.

For context, The Hound has been around since day dot and we all know he got his brutal burn scars from his brother, aka The Mountain, when he was pushed into a fire.

Ever since then, The Hound has wanted revenge, but it's always been just out of reach.

The penultimate episode of the series has finally delivered what many people were hyping up as the showdown to end all showdowns. And what a bloody good fight it was.

They confronted each other on the crumbling staircase inside the castle. The Hound allowed Cersei to pass because he knew he had bigger fish to fry and focused on his brother (who was turned into a kind of zombie by Cersei).

It seemed like The Hound had no hope until he drove his sword straight through The Mountain's chest. But that only enraged him - and he took off his armour, giving us the first look at him post-zombie.

To be fair, he looked pretty rough.

But then The Hound gets thrown up against a wall and The Mountain pulls his classic move of trying to crush his skull through his eyes - the same move that killed Oberyn Martell.

But The Hound pulls out a dagger and shoves it straight through his brother's eye. Incredibly that doesn't kill the bastard and it leaves him feeling distraught. WHY WON'T YOU DIE?

Realising there was going to never be a way that he would get out alive, The Hound tackled The Mountain through a wall that sent them falling to their deaths in the fiery depths below.

It was a devastating but fitting end for our anti-hero. He helped Arya Stark throughout the series, even though he never had a nice word to say to her until this episode.

He warned her to get out of the castle because killing Cersei would not bring the revenge she so desperately wanted. While we all would have loved to have seen that scene, we were happy that she got out with her life...for now.
