Gogglebox Creator Explains Why Mary And Giles Were Missing From Last Week's Show

Fans were 'fuming' but the married couple were only off on their holidays

Viewers of Gogglebox were left wondering where two of the show's most popular stars were on last week's episode.

Giles and Mary, who have been regulars on the programme since 2015, have got an army of fans who were missing their usual funny remarks during the episode which aired on Friday.

One asked: "Where are Giles and Mary tonight? Actually fuming."

While another said: "Where were Giles and Mary tonight? We missed them - they are our favourite."

"Saved the catch up to last night and went to bed depressed - no Giles and Mary," a third disappointed viewer added.

But fear not fans, because the husband and wife duo were just away on holiday and will be back dissecting whatever is on the box next week.

The show's creator replied (see above) to one tweet which was questioning where Giles and Mary were to say: "On hols. Back next week."

Giles and Mary, who lovingly refer to each other as 'Nutty', have been together since they were just 21 - after meeting while he was studying at Wimbledon Art School and she was a model.

The posh pair are filmed in their Wiltshire cottage - and Giles has previously said the couple do get asked for selfies while they're out and about.

In an interview with the Guardian, he revealed: "Fame hasn't changed us. We fly under the radar. That changed a little bit when French and Saunders spoofed us, which was recognition that we'd seeped into the national consciousness.

"Mary gets recognised more than me because I wear a red bobble hat a lot of the time.

"If I'm not feeling cheerful, she kicks me in the shins and tells me to smile for a selfie. There are lots of pictures of me out there, grinning like a baboon in a bobble hat.

He added: "But it's not like being a member of the Beatles pop group. We don't get mobbed."

Speaking on Alan Carr's Chatty Man, Mary also explained the reasoning behind their clashing interiors.

"I'll tell you why," she told the host. "It's poverty. Poverty. We had the walls done first and then somebody gave us the chair. It was meant to be in the bedroom.

"We are quite poverty stricken. What Gogglebox has given us is fame, without the fortune."

Who'd have thought watching a TV show about people watching TV shows would be so entertaining?
