It's been close to a year since we heard news that The Simpsons creator Matt Groening had teamed up with Netflix to produce a brand-new animated series.

Yet in those 10 months, that's virtually the only thing that's emerged about Disenchantment and, to be honest, we're getting a bit restless.

But Matt must've sensed fans were very keen to see what he was coming up with because he's given us a sneak peek at illustrations from the show.

Look, there's no denying that the show looks very similar to The Simpsons but who cares, as long as it's funny and engaging, then it'll have an audience.

Netflix has ordered 20 episodes from Groening, which will be spread out over two seasons. According to a statement, the show will be 'an adult animated comedy fantasy series'.

It adds: "Viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci."

Ok, well it appears that it still has the central theme of heavy drinking that we see from Homer in The Simpsons and Bender in Futurama.

"Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and a lot of human fools," the statement continued.

The lead character, Bean, will be voiced by Abbi Jacobson, who is one part of the incredible comedy duo from Broad City. Nat Faxon plays Elfo, who you would have seen in Ben and Kate and Married, but also heard him in several episodes of Family Guy and The Cleveland Show.

Viewers will also get to hear characters voiced by Billy West, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche and David Hoffman.

Apparently, we can expect this masterpiece on August 17 this year, so there's not too much waiting left.

Netflix's vice president, Cindy Holland, says: "Matt Groening's brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn't be happier to work with him on Disenchantment.

"The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans."

It's been a busy few months for Mr Groening, who recently celebrated The Simpsons overtaking Gunsmoke to become the longest running US scripted TV series of all time with its 636th episode.

It was titled 'Forgive and Regret' and explored the relationship between Homer and his distant mum, Mona, who we saw all the way back in season seven when she revealed why she ran away.

Homer goes on a search for Mona's lunchbox which contained all her old recipes as well as messages she left for her son.

Considering The Simpsons is currently on season 29, let's hope Disenchantment is just as good.
