The daytime television legend that is Holly Willoughby was in floods of tears on today's edition of This Morning after a live makeover went terribly, terribly wrong.

Throughout the show, Holly and her partner in crime Philip Schofield had promised that a fan would be treated to a stunning makeover, to get them ready for a school reunion.

In the end Carol - who had been nominated by her lovely husband Pete - was chosen to undergo the transformation, but what started out as a dream come true quickly turned into a nightmare.

Poor Carol stepped out and unveiled her new blonde locks, dressed in a sleek, figure-hugging, pink crushed velvet dress, and white boots.

It's fair to say both presenters were pretty shocked at the outcome, but were quick to comfort Carol, telling her how incredible she looked - only for the guest to burst into tears and tell the crew to stop filming. Ouch.

When asked what the matter was - I mean, it was pretty obvious - she admitted she just wasn't feeling the outfit and didn't want to be a part of the live experience anymore.

A pretty peeved Lisa Snowdon - who had helped out with the makeover - appeared to be fairly offended but Carol just admitted it wasn't how she imagined it to look.

And though Holly told the distraught fan there were plenty of other outfits to choose from, Phil said it would have to wait as they had booked a table at a fancy London restaurant.

Holly reassured her that there was plenty of other outfits for her to choose from downstairs.

Clearly upset by the entire ordeal, presenter Holly burst into floods of tears as Pete and Carol hopped into a car and drove away only for it to crash into the building. As if things couldn't get any worse.

Producers quickly told Holly and Phil to carry on with the show and pretend that none of this ever happened.

Then suddenly Phil turned to Holly and screamed 'April Fool', revealing to his co-host that this had been a complete ruse, and Carol hadn't just received the makeover from hell Holly had feared all along.

Trying not to swear at her team, a relieved Holly said: "I can't tell you, that was so awful. I'm so relieved it wasn't real," before she was introduced to Amy and Leo who were actors playing the two guests.
