It's been a long three years since Sons Of Anarchy left our screens and the motorcycle group abolished their 'unwritten bylaw' in the final scenes.

Running for seven seasons from 2008 to 2014 it has an average of 4.45 million viewers in the US, growing year-on-year.

The crime drama series followed the biker group SAMCRO in their both legal, and illegal, dealings.

It starred Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller, Katey Sagal as his mother, Gemma Morrow, and Ron Pearlman as her husband Clay Marrow.

The new series will follow the Mayans motorcycle club - rivals to the legendary SAMCRO.

It was picked up by eagle-eyed viewers on the trailer reel for FX's new streaming service, FX+.

Mayans MC will pick up off the end of the finale from Sons Of Anarchy and focus on EZ Reyes, a young club prospect (played by JD Pardo).

The channel 'FX+' will run the programme, and president John Landgraf labelled it as 'exciting'.

"It's a good sign," he said. "I'm really excited about where we are in the process of Mayans. I'm very confident about the future of that spin-off."

Last year, Sons Of Anarchy show creator, Kurt Sutter, said of the spin-off: "We're figuring out what that would look like and I'm in the process of meeting with writers and narrowing it down.

"My intent is, over the hiatus I'll initiate a script for the pilot and take it from there."

However, for the loyal fans, there's no need to worry that the new series will step on the toes of the old series.

A record 6.4 million watched the final episode of Sons Of Anarchy when it went out on December 9, 2014.

Sutter added it will be set 'far enough away from Northern California' to not 'step on the mythology that's already been told'.

"It doesn't mean that there couldn't be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed."

The show will also star Edwards James Olmos as EZ's father (Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049) and Jacqueline Obradors (Six Days, Seven Nights) as EZ's mother.

President of the Mayans, Esai 'Taino' Oscorio, will be played by John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island, Steve Jobs and Fast And Furious).

Sadly, apart from the knowledge of it 'coming soon', we don't have a release date for the new spin-off.
