Stephen King Reckons ‘Stranger Things’ Is ‘Balls To The Wall Entertainment’

It's a massive compliment to The Duffer Brothers, who are a big fan of the King of Suspense...

While it's great to receive an award from the BAFTAS, the Emmys, the Golden Globes or even the Oscars, it hardly compares to a massive compliment from the undisputed King of Suspense.

Stephen King has a gift that is only bestowed on a few people, so when the 70-year-old pipes up about something he likes, you know it's going to be good.

He's given his verdict on Stranger Things, writing on Twitter: "STRANGER THINGS 2: Ladies and gentlemen, that's how you do it: no bullshit, balls to the wall entertainment. Straight up."

Fans of the latest instalment to the Netflix series couldn't agree more with Mr King, with many believing the second season delivered on its promise to live up to the start of the show.

Don't get me wrong, Stranger Things winning a bevy of awards is a brilliant result for a show set in the 1980s about three normal boys and a girl with superhuman abilities trying to find their mate in another dimension, but a compliment from King is something to cherish.

When I try to get people into the show and tell them what it's about they usually shrug and tell me they don't like sci-fi, but it's so much more than science fiction with an awesome soundtrack.

It's not the first time King has thrown his support behind The Duffer Brothers' creation. When the first season came out he wasn't shy about his feelings for the writing and the cast.

He wrote: "STRANGER THINGS is pure fun. A+. Don't miss it. Winona Ryder shines.

"Watching STRANGER THINGS is looking [sic] watching Steve King's Greatest Hits. I mean that in a good way."

Interestingly, fans speculated about whether a certain character from the second season was a crossover from one of King's most popular novels. Some people reckon Bob (Sean Astin), who plays Joyce's (Winona Ryder) love interest, is actually a survivor from Pennywise the Clown from It.

In episode two, 'Trick Or Treat', Bob reveals that his parents are from Maine when he suggests to Joyce that they move there - Maine being the same state where the events of It take place.

Secondly, during his and Will's bonding session in the car the following episode, Bob reveals that he was terrorised by a clown in his dreams when he was little.

There have been some fan theories based on a lot less than that, so we reckon it's certainly a possibility. The Duffer Brothers have previously said some of their work is inspired by King so maybe this was a sly nod his way.
