It's always exciting when two living legends team up for a big, action-packed movie, knowing you should be in for a good ride if the project can handle their combined reputations (and salaries).

Well, now we're being treated to the unlikely partnership of Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who are both starring in the forthcoming fantasy flick The Mystery of the Dragon Seal: Journey to China - the sequel to 2014's Forbidden Empire (also known as Viy), which was loosely based on a horror novella by Russian writer Nikolai Gogol.

And now we also have a release date for the film, as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed it will hit screens in both China and Russia on 16 August - though no official word of when it might be in cinemas elsewhere just yet.

While we're arguably more used to watching Arnie pumping iron or rushing people to the chopper, this time he's taking on the world of wizards, princesses, dragons and martial arts as an imposing sea captain, while Chan will play a master wizard and the 'king of all dragons'.

The producers haven't revealed whether or not the two will face off in any sort of fight scene, but fingers crossed we'll get to see the former Mr. Olympia and the world-famous martial artist go head-to-head.

The first film starred Jason Flemyng an 18th-century English explorer Jonathan Green, who journeys east and discovers a dark and mysterious world in the impassable forests of Ukraine.

For the sequel he'll be reprising the role as his character is ordered by Peter the Great to map the Russian Far East, while other cast members include Charles Dance, the late Rutger Hauer, the Luu brothers and Anna Yao.

"Once again he sets out for a long journey full of incredible adventures that will eventually lead him to China," the film's official plot summary explains.

"The cartographer will face many breathtaking discoveries, encounter bizarre creatures, meet with Chinese princesses, and confront deadly martial-arts masters and the Dragon King."

Fingers crossed for a fight scene between these guys!

There have been a few hold-ups with the film - which was originally called Viy 2: Journey to China - having been slated for an August 2018 release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming wrapped back in February 2017 after lengthy on-again, off-again shoots in the UK, Russia and China, but was 'mired in post-production for more than two years amid reports of disputes between the producing partners'.
