Comedian James Acaster - best known for being a regular on Mock the Week - said he 'got dumped for Mr Bean' after his other-half Louise Ford left him and later began a relationship with Rowan Atkinson.

Thirty-four-year old James told the story during a recent stand-up gig, saying that his partner Louise grew distant from him after starring in a play with Rowan, 64, back in 2013, the Sun reports.

The comedian said he and 36-year-old Louise had been in a relationship for two years, when she was cast in Quartermaine's Terms alongside the Mr Bean star.

Rowan Atkinson and the actress now have a daughter together.

Louise and Rowan are still together and have a little girl, Isla, together.

During his act, he said: "I got left for Mr Bean.

"I found out a year after we split up. I opened the newspaper and there was a full-page story.

"No one else in the history of time has ever been left for Mr Bean."

Rowan and Louise moved in together the next year and welcomed their little girl, his fourth child, in 2017.

He had previously been married to make-up artist Sunetra Sastry.

Opening up about the bizarre situation, James went on: "I'm a goddam saint to have kept this in the back pocket so long.

"It's my job to say things that are funny and the funniest thing that's ever happened to anyone, happened to me and I put it on the back-burner out of respect.

"Until you get left for Mr Bean, you don't realise how frequently he pops up.

"There's a shop two streets from my house that sells masks of his face.

"There's nowhere where I'm going to go that he's not there."

Last month, it was reported that Rowan was taking a break from acting so he could look after 'Baby Bean' full-time meaning Louise could focus on her career.

An unnamed source told the Sun: "Rowan has a habit of surprising people - and he has done it again with this announcement.

"He has said he will take a back seat from work to be with Isla, and this will obviously allow Louise to focus on her career which is going well.

"Rowan loves spending time with Isla, he completely dotes on her.

"She is mischievous like any baby and gets into scrapes at home, which is why Rowan calls her 'Baby Bean'.

"But the gesture if very generous and typical of Rowan, and it is very good for Louise. Obviously, she will spend loads of time with Isla and Rowan but it gives her the freedom to take up roles if they're offered.

"Rowan does not really need to work if he does not want to - but he is proud of how well Louise is doing and wants to do what he can to support her."
